The eyes are swollen and closed due to internal burning of heat-toxin, resulting in the formation of corneal opacities (翳) and ulceration of the eyeball. Take two strips of bamboo, with a length equal to that of the eye and a width of approximately 2 fen. First, tightly bind the bamboo strips with cotton thread. Use one end of the bamboo strip to clamp the inner eyelid, then tightly secure the outer end of the bamboo strip with a long thread, leaving the thread to be tied above the ear. This allows the eye to open, thereby venting fire-qi, and the swelling and pain will subside. After several days, the clamped flesh may rot and fall off, which is not harmful.
For chronic toothache, although the root of the tooth is extremely loose, it is bound internally by blood vessels (blood sinews). If one rashly attempts to extract the tooth and injures these blood vessels, blood may gush uncontrollably, posing a threat to life. Administer Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction; see formula later). If bleeding does not stop, add 2 qian of Xi Yang Shen (American Ginseng, *Panax quinquefolius*).
For Gucao Feng (Bone Trench Wind, resembling osteomyelitis of the jaw) and Yading (Dental Carbuncle), consuming meat or fish at the onset will inevitably aggravate fire and close in the toxin, leading to hard swelling that spreads and ulcerates, involving the face and neck, with trismus (lockjaw). The course is prolonged, often resulting in the formation of sequestra (multiple bones). One must wait for the sequestra to aggregate before extracting them. For any external sores, if one does not abstain from fresh meat and fish, the wound will fail to heal. Pus will coagulate internally, becoming hard over time, thus forming sequestra.
After a Ding Chuang (Carbuncle) has just healed, consuming meat or fish causes the new flesh at the affected site, which is thin and tender, to swell again and ulcerate with pus discharge. Otherwise, a hard, nail-like fleshy growth may form at the apex of the lesion, making it difficult to eradicate the root of the disease.
After healing from bites by mad dogs or snakes, numbness and insensitivity are common. If the bite toxin recurs, the whole body, especially, feels numb and itchy. If the toxin wanders chaotically to the heart, death ensues. At the initial moment of a mad dog bite, three red hairs on the crown of the head can be identified; illuminating them with a lamp flame and plucking them out prevents the disease from developing. Avoid "fa" foods (trigger foods),麻味 (numbing taste) foods, and the sound of gongs.
Those who show irreverence towards deities, contract evil influences, or are haunted by past-life karmic debts may develop internal symptoms characterized by coma, restlessness, alternating fever and non-fever, talking exclusively about ghosts and gods at night, heavy body with wandering pain, immobility, strabismus, and insomnia. If conditions such as Dabe (Back Carbuncle), Duikou (Opposite Mouth Carbuncle), or Liuzhu (Flowing Abscess) occur, presenting only as diffuse swelling or hardness without a defined root base, accompanied by unceasing pain, and upon ulceration, leaking blood and water, deep insertion of needles or knives elicits no pain. The patient must subsequently accumulate merit through good deeds, confess early, or burn paper money for offerings, which can naturally lead to rescue. Confucius said: "Revere the spirits but keep them at a distance." One should perform rituals with sincerity and propriety, not through flattery and profanity to seek blessings.
