Method 32:
Pishu (BL20) governs alternating cold and heat in the four limbs, lumbar pain preventing flexion and extension, jaundice with abdominal fullness, vomiting after eating, and stiffness of the tongue root. For these conditions, moxibustion is applied to three points on the vertebral column, seven moxa cones for each point.
Method for treating fecal incontinence in the elderly and children:
Apply three moxa cones at a location one cun lateral to the nail corner of the big toe on both feet.
Additionally, apply three moxa cones to the Qijian point (Yinbai, SP1) on the big toe.
For obstruction of both urination and defecation:
Apply three moxa cones one cun below the umbilicus.
Additionally, apply one hundred moxa cones at the transverse crease.
Method for treating difficult defecation:
Apply seven moxa cones at a location one cun lateral to both sides of the seventh thoracic vertebra.
Apply moxibustion at Changyi (Changwei), located two and a half cun lateral to Xiayucquan, according to the patient's age (another source states two cun).
Additionally, apply three moxa cones to each of the two Chengjin (BL57) points.
Additionally, apply moxibustion to Dadu (SP2) according to the patient's age.
Additionally, apply four moxa cones to Dazhun (LR1).
For heat closure in the abdomen, occasional difficulty in urination and defecation, and lumbar pain radiating to the chest, apply one hundred moxa cones to Tuangang. This point is located two cun below Xiaochangshu (BL27) and three cun laterally; apply moxibustion here.
For fecal impaction, qi stagnation, and hardness/fullness in the heart region, apply one hundred moxa cones to Shimen (CV5).
For difficulty in urination and defecation, impending abdominal pain, apply one hundred moxa cones to each of the four Rongwei points, located one cun lateral to the four sides of the spinal column.
For difficulty in urination and defecation, apply eight hundred moxa cones total. These points are located three cun below Yaomu, four cun lateral to the spine on both sides, totaling four points.
For obstruction of urination and defecation in infants, apply one moxa cone to each side of Bakuo (Dicang, ST4) at the corners of the mouth.
For difficulty in urination and frequent watery diarrhea, apply fifty moxa cones to Quguduan (Huiyin, CV1).
Additionally, apply one hundred moxa cones to Tianshu (ST25), located two cun lateral to the umbilicus on both sides. This point is the residence of the Hun and Po spirits and should not be needled. (Another source states three cun lateral to the umbilicus.)
Method for treating dysentery:
For blood in the stool, apply moxibustion to the twentieth vertebra according to the patient's age. (This is likely Zhonglurou Shu, BL18.)
For red and white dysentery, apply one hundred moxa cones to Qiangutou (the tip of the coccyx); more is better.
For indigestion, diarrhea and dysentery leading to emaciation, apply moxibustion to Pishu (BL20) according to the patient's age. For profuse diarrhea, five types of dysentery with pus and blood, tenesmus, and abdominal pain, apply one hundred moxa cones to Xiaochangshu (BL27).
For chronic dysentery, loss of flatus accompanied by cold from overwork, apply one hundred moxa cones to Xiyao, administered three times (three reports). This point is located on the midline of the spine between the Ba Kui points. More moxibustion is better; use the San Zong bones as reference.
Contraindications/Precautions:
If there is no dysentery but poor appetite and indigestion, apply fifty moxa cones to Changgu, administered three times. This point is located five cun lateral to the umbilicus on both sides, also known as Xunjie.
For red and white dysentery, apply fifty moxa cones to the Foot-Taiyin channel points, administered three times.
For chronic cold causing five types of hemorrhoids with rectal bleeding, apply one hundred moxa cones to Jizhong (GV9).
For five types of hemorrhoids with rectal bleeding and fecal incontinence, apply one hundred moxa cones to Huiqi, located above the tip of the coccyx. For red and white discharge, apply moxibustion to Qiongxiang; more is better.
For chronic dysentery unresponsive to various treatments, apply moxibustion to the midpoint above the high bone one cun below the Foot-Yangming channel, three cun lateral to Qijian (Yinbai, SP1) on the big toe, according to the patient's age.
Additionally, apply three hundred moxa cones to Guanyuan (CV4), administered once every ten days; this also treats cold dysentery with abdominal pain.
Additionally, bend a bamboo strip and measure the point corresponding to the top of the hip joints. Measure down one cun and mark points on both sides. Measure down another one cun to meet at the spine. Apply thirty moxa cones to one point, totaling over one hundred moxa cones; this cures all types of dysentery. It also treats infantile malnutrition with dampness. Do not apply moxibustion at the point on the spine corresponding to the hip joint marking.
Additionally, apply moxibustion to the center of the umbilicus, gradually increasing to two or three hundred cones.
