Prescription for treating carbuncles and sores (Yongju), hemorrhoids, malignant ulcers, and women's engorged breast abscesses (Dulu Chuang):
*Radix Polygoni Multiflori* (Yege), *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Shaoyao), *Bulbus Allii Macrostemonis* (Xiebai), *Herba Tetrasperi* (Tongcao) (each 0.5 liang), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Danggui) (3 fen), *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata* (Fuzi) (1 fen).
The above six herbs are cut into pieces and soaked in vinegar for half a day. First, render 8 he of lard until smoke rises, add 0.5 liang of human hair, and dissolve completely. Then add the herbs and heat to boiling. Perform "three ups and three downs" (boil, remove from heat, reheat, repeat three times), filter out the dregs, and cool. Clean the affected area with an old cloth to remove dirt. Apply the ointment.
Another prescription:
Boil *Radix Rehmanniae Preparata* juice until it becomes like glue, form into cakes, and apply to the lesion. Change four times a day; it heals in three days. (*Qianjin Fang* notes: it eliminates necrotic flesh.)
Prescription for treating swelling and carbuncles:
*Radix Cissampi* (Zige) (2.5 liang), *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Dahuang) (5 fen), *Rhizoma Belamcandae* (Bailian), *Radix Scrophulariae* (Xuanshen), *Rhizoma Coptidis* (Huanglian), *Radix Scutellariae* (Huangqin), *Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae* (Youba), *Radix Cimicifugae* (Shengma), *Cortex Ulmi* (Yu Baipi) (each 3 fen).
The above eleven herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder, and mixed with fresh *Radix Rehmanniae* juice to form a paste for application. Replace when dry. Mixing with strong vinegar is also acceptable.
Prescription for treating chronic non-healing carbuncles and sores:
*Resina Pini* (Songzhi), *Olibanum* (Xunluxiang / Ru Xiang).
The above two ingredients are divided equally, crushed, mixed with a little salt to form cakes, and applied to the sore. Once foul discharge ceases, healing occurs.
