Alcohol is of great heat and toxicity, with a purely yang nature. It belongs to formless substances. If it injures the body, one should only employ dispersing methods. Once sweating occurs, the condition will resolve. This is the most excellent method. Next best is promoting urination. These two approaches eliminate dampness from above and below respectively. How could there be alcohol-induced disease? Currently, those treating alcohol-related ailments administer "Jiu Zheng Wan" (Alcohol Syndrome Pill), a formula of great heat, to purge downwards. Others use Qian Niu Zi (Pharbitis Seed) and Da Huang (Rhubarb Root) for purgation. This treats an injury to formless Yuan Qi (Original Qi) by attacking formless Yin Blood, which is extremely erroneous. The nature of alcohol is greatly hot; it has already damaged Yuan Qi. To repeat purging would further damage Zhen Yin (True Yin) in Kidney Water as well as formless Yin Blood, leading to deficiency in both. In this manner, Yin Blood becomes increasingly deficient, and True Water grows weaker. The heat of Yang Toxin flares up excessively, aggravating Yin Fire. This is termed the exhaustion of Yuan Qi, leaving the Seven Spirits (Shen, Hun, Po, Yi, Zhi, etc.) without foundation, shortening life. Otherwise, consumptive diseases arise. *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states: "If Ji Dan (Jaundice caused by alcohol) is treated with purgatives, it will eventually transform into Hei Dan (Black Jaundice)." One must strictly avoid this prohibition. Instead, use Ge Hua Jie Ying Tang (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Relieve Intoxication) to dissipate dampness from above and below.

If relied upon while continuing to drink, it will shorten one's natural lifespan.
