Water Retrieving the Moon Method
This method is primarily of a great cooling nature. With the infant's palm facing upward, the practitioner holds it with the left hand, drips a drop of cool water onto the Neilaogong (Inner Laogong) acupoint, and immediately fans seven times with the four fingers of the right hand. Then, cool water is dripped onto the Zongjing (General Meridian) and Tianhe (Heavenly River) acupoints. The practitioner blows four or five breaths, flexes the infant's middle finger, and pinches it with the left thumb. With the right hand formed into a fist, the practitioner massages from the Zongjing acupoint to the Quchi (Pool at the Crook) acupoint along the middle finger joint, spanning two horizontal finger-widths across the empty space. This is repeated four or five times. Kicking towards the Guan (Gate) area directs the cooling sensation along the back; kicking towards the Fu (Bowel/Abdomen) area directs it into the heart muscle. This should not be used lightly.
Another method involves rotating massage on the infant's palm while blowing cold water, similar to the Eight Trigrams rotation technique, circling around in all directions, known as "Fishing for the Moon at the Water's Bottom." This was attributed to Yu the Great casting (Note: Textual reference).
Pressing Strings and Rubbing Method
This method treats phlegm stagnation. The practitioner holds the infant's palm upward with the left hand and uses the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the right hand to gently massage from above the Yang (Yang Gate) acupoint to Quchi (Pool at the Crook), and then gently to Yin (Yin Gate) acupoint. This up-and-down motion is performed nine times. For Yang syndromes, the Guan (Gate) is treated lightly and the Fu (Bowel/Abdomen) heavily. For Yin syndromes, the Guan is treated heavily and the Fu lightly. Then, using both hands, rub from Quchi to the Guan-Fu area three or four times. Next, pinch the infant's Spleen finger with the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the right hand, and the infant's Douzhou (Dou Elbow) with the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the left hand, shaking them outward twenty-four times.
Ape Plucking Fruit Method
This method is primarily warming, treats phlegm-qi disorders, dispels cold, and reduces fever. The practitioner uses the index and middle fingers of the left hand to pinch the infant's Yang (Yang Gate) acupoint, and the thumb to pinch the Yin (Yin Gate) acupoint. For Cold syndromes, use the right thumb to knead upwards from Yang to Quchi, then downwards to Yin, named "Turning Yang to Cross Yin." For Heat syndromes, knead upwards from Yin to Quchi, then downwards to Yang, named "Turning Yin to Cross Yang." Perform each nine times. The Yang acupoint is San Guan (Three Gates), and the Yin acupoint is Liu Fu (Six Bowels). After kneading, use the right thumb to press (pinch) the Heart, Liver, and Spleen fingers of the infant once each, and shake each twenty-four times. For Cold syndromes, shake inward; for Heat syndromes, shake outward.
