For women aged sixteen and above whose Tian Gui (menstrual blood) has arrived, wait until the time of menstruation. Ten days prior to its onset, administer Tongru Yin (Galactagogue Decoction), decocted and taken on an empty stomach. Subsequently, have an infant suckle both breasts. Over time, milk secretion will naturally flow. The method of collection should be employed before the first menstruation occurs, not after it has already happened. Once milk flows, consume pig trotters boiled until soft into a porridge daily. Drink scallion and pepper soup occasionally. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed in moderation, but tea and fried or roasted foods must be avoided, and sexual intercourse is prohibited.
Tongru Yin (Galactagogue Decoction) also treats postpartum women with insufficient lactation; it can be taken by such women, and for those whose menses have not yet begun, it can transform menstrual blood into milk.
Chuan Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1.5 qian) Wang Bu Liu Xing (Semen Viscerae, 1.5 qian) Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong, 0.8 fen) Chuan Shan Jia (Squama Manis, 7 slices, stir-fried and powdered) Mu Tong (Caulis Akebiae, 1 qian) Lou Lu (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae, 1 qian) Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 1 qian) Gan Cao Jie (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 1 qian)
Add two zhan of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until one zhan remains. Take slightly warm, followed by several cups of wine to assist the medicinal action.
Select a healthy, virginal maiden whose menstruation is about to commence. Collect the blood using a pouch (Tuo). Some argue that only the first menstruation should be collected, as subsequent ones are useless; however, this is difficult to adhere to strictly. The initial menstruation represents congenital essence (Xian Tian), while subsequent menstruation represents acquired essence (Hou Tian); neither can be deemed entirely without value. The efficacy of collecting this substance depends on the selection of vessels and harmonization techniques, making both congenital and acquired sources usable.
Cui Qian Fang (Menstruation-Inducing Lead Formula) tonifies Qi and harmonizes Blood. It is suitable for women with delayed menstruation.

During the late summer season, capture large toads suffering from skin disease. Use a clam shell still attached to its membrane. Press firmly against the area above the toad's eyebrows. The Chan Su (Toad Venom) will exude into the shell. Collect it onto oil-proof paper. Store dried Chan Su for use. The toad remains alive; release it, and the Chan Su will regenerate.
