Qilinjie Paste (Derived from various famous prescriptions, I selected premium ingredients with sufficient potency to form a single formula. Used for forty years, it produces miraculous effects. The treated conditions are as follows.)
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Momordicae Semen (Mubiezi Ren), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu), Terminalia Chebulae Fructus (Wubeizi), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) (each half liang), Sophora Japonicae Ramulus (Huaitiao), Salix Tomentosa Ramulus (Liutiao) (each twenty-seven roots, about one cun in length).
Except for the Sophora and Salix branches, all other herbs are chopped and mixed together.
Good-quality Draco Sanguis (Xuejie) (three qian), Zhen Qingfen (Calomel), Dangmenzi (Moschus/Shexiang) (each one qian, finely ground), Realgar (Xionghuang) (four qian), Dripping Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrh (Moyao) (each two qian, each ground and mixed separately), Pine Rosin (Songxiang) (transparent quality, ten liang).
Take three liang of pure Sesame Oil (Xiangyou), and decoct the aforementioned eight herbs together in a pot. Apply alternating mild and strong heat, stirring up and down three times. Continuously stir with two Sophora branches until they turn scorched yellow. Immediately filter off the dregs using cotton cloth. Return the oil to the pot, first adding Pine Rosin and Asphaltum powder, stirring constantly. If the mixture boils over, remove from fire temporarily, stirring for about an hour. Drop a small amount into water; if it forms a pill that is neither soft nor hard when handled by hand, remove from fire. Then slowly add the previous six herbs, stirring rapidly until extremely uniform. If it solidifies, return to heat, but do not let it boil again. Pour immediately into a large basin of water. After half a day, knead it; it will gradually soften. Knead and fold repeatedly until it resembles golden threads, then soak in water again. When free time permits, knead and stretch further. In spring and summer, change water frequently. For urgent use, soak for one or two nights; soaking for several days is even better. Use large bamboo tubes cut to desired sizes, one or two cun high. Fill with medicine until full and level. Cover both sides with oiled paper. Quickly peel off one side over intense fire, cover with paper again to roast, then peel off the other side. If too thick, insert another paper layer to make two separate pastes. To expand the area, print four or five connected pieces on large paper for application. Treats all carbuncles, sores, and toxic ulcers. Heat according to standard methods, cool, and apply. Unruptured lesions dissipate; ruptured ones drain. Expels necrotic tissue and promotes granulation. Applicable throughout the course of the disease. Treats all ding swellings and nodules; apply to affected areas. Treats all ulcerative sores: first wash with ginger juice and alum solution using a goose feather quill. Apply Bougainvilleae folium (Niubangzi ye) or Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma leaf (Jingangteng ye) to the sore for half a day to draw out foul fluids, then apply the paste. Recovery expected within days. Excluding infantile thrush, treats all dry and wet white tinea capitis. Shave hair, apply a thin pancake spread with sesame oil to the head for the duration of a meal, then apply the large paste directly over the head once or twice. Change medication for immediate effect. Treats all damp-heat itching and painful sores on buttocks and thighs. Clean and dry before application. Treats all traumatic injuries, contusions, qi stagnation, and penetrating wounds. Apply to affected areas. For headache, apply to Taiyang acupoints (both temples). For red eyes, apply to Yuwui points (canthi). For sudden wind-cold cough, apply to Jixin point (midline of back). For toothache, scrape powder into tooth gaps. For pediatric malnutrition and dysentery, moisten hands, roll into green bean-sized pills, take 30-20 pills with rice water. For all wind-cold-damp bi syndrome: arm pain apply to arm. If leg pain persists after half a day without relief, pour hot water over exposed toes, washing from the painful area downwards. Soak old cloth in hot water, place on paste, steam until hot. Scrape toenails with ceramic tile to promote permeability, but not excessively. Pain should gradually shift to interosseous joints. Then apply paste according to method. Remove upper layers joint by joint. When pain moves to the ankle, apply to Yongquan point (sole of foot). Trim toenails naturally. Often, women suffer from dampness causing leg swelling and severe hip pain. Apply oiled paper extensively over the hip. Guide downward using previous methods, then apply to sole. Within days, blisters appear under the sole paste, discharging yellow fluid for several days, preventing recurrence in old age. Arm pain treated similarly. Generally, the paste must be larger than the lesion to counteract the disease. Children's skin is tender; efficacy is unlikely otherwise. Apply to healthy skin near pain using warm application; for sores, warm application is not necessary. I carried this personally during my prime, treating patients encountered on the road. Miraculous effects cannot be fully described. In my youth, while traveling with scholars in Luoyang, I often heard them lament their lack of opportunity. One person skilled in treating back sores had mystical claims. Observing him, I found he was my servant. Upon returning home and questioning him, he admitted it. One day, he claimed his master met an immortal and received this herb. Even blooming in June, it felt like ice/snow to the touch. Suddenly, a Daoist practitioner came to stay at my villa. After a few days, he sighed, "Fortunately, there is this immortal herb at the door," and earnestly entrusted it to me. I agreed, saying, "This is Belamcandae Rhizoma (Shéyēng)." The Daoist said, "I previously sold medicine in Huaixi. When officials conscripted doctors for war, I fled into the mountains. I met an old woman aged 100-200, who claimed to have fled the Jin dynasty wars, a physician of the Yuan Wanyan clan. She transmitted this herb and Shouxing San, specifically for malignant sores, saving countless lives."
Dibianzhu Powder (i.e., Belamcandae Rhizoma/Shéyēng, currently found in the original garden. Leaves resemble Galangal, roots resemble bamboo rhizomes, interior color is golden yellow.)
Belamcandae Rhizoma (Shéyēng) (ground to powder).
One ingredient. Take approximately three characters' worth of powder (using a small coin measure) per dose. Mix with warm wine and ingest. If the disease is in the upper body, slight vomiting occurs; if in the lower body, slight diarrhea occurs. I used this to help people; its efficacy is divine. Continue using the previous paste to close wound openings.
Shouxing San (Longevity Star Powder) Specifically treats malignant sores with unbearable pain. Sprinkle on the wound; pain ceases. Once pain returns upon sprinkling, treatment can proceed.
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Da Nanxing - Note: Text says Da Nanxing, usually refers to Typhonii Rhizoma or prepared Aconite, context implies Typhonii for external use here).
Grind to powder. For severe back sores, sprinkle evenly. Patient can rest peacefully. If insensible to pain, sprinkle until sensation returns, then treat.
Quxie San (Expelling Evil Powder) (from Oudaicheng of Hengzhou). Treats complications of epidemic cold damage and various pathogenic qi. Regardless of yin or yang syndromes, treats headache, nausea, panting, body aches, irritability, thirst, and dry throat.
Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Perillae Folium (Zisu), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gange), Paeoniae Rubra Radix (Chi Shaoyao), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Changpu), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nongpo), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Agastachis Herba (Huoxiang), Rheomi Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhizi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Xiang Baizhi).
Equal parts. Process according to standard methods, chop coarsely. Decoct with ginger and scallion. Take at any time.
Guayan Jian (Melon and Salt Decoction) Treats cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea. Etiology: drinking cold liquids, exposure to cold/heat, hunger, anger, or motion sickness damaging stomach qi. Causes persistent vomiting followed by diarrhea, resulting in cholera, dizziness, vertigo, muscle cramps in limbs, cold extremities. Delayed treatment leads to death quickly.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), Chaenomelis Fructus (Mu Gua), Sodium Chloride (Yan) (each five qian).
Char until scorched. Place in porcelain jar with three sheng of water. Boil vigorously. Add herbs, decoct until reduced to 1-2 sheng. Pour one cup. Serve hot or cold according to patient preference. Patient revives upon ingestion.
Another Prescription: A pinch of salt, one cup of vinegar. Decoct to 80% volume. Take warm. Or use salted plum (sour/salty) boiled and taken.
Erhuang Shagu Dan (Two-Yellow Ghost-Killing Pill). Syndrome: Sleeping in unoccupied cold rooms, feeling pressed/dream attack during sleep. Patient makes choking sounds. Calling does not wake them. This is "ghost pressing." Death ensues if untreated. Urgently use this medicine.
Bovis Calculus (Niuhuang), Realgar (Xionghuang) (each one qian), Cinnabaris (Zhusha) (five fen).
Grind to powder and mix uniformly. Burn one qian under the bed. Take one qian, mix with wine, and administer orally.
Hongqian Jieming Shenfang (Red Lead Life-Connecting Divine Formula) (Transmitted by stranger from sea). Uses menstrual blood from healthy virgin girls. First flow is best; second/third flows are medium; fourth/fifth are inferior but usable. Collection method: Make a vessel from black lead or silver, shaped like a yellow-robed crown. When menstruation begins, place vessel on vulva via old woman, secure with silk cloth to collect blood. Store in porcelain, dry, and preserve. Mix with Ginseng Radix powder, or Angelicae Sinensis Radix decoction, or Lithii Carbonas (Qiushi) paste. Take 5 fen with warm wine on empty stomach. Greatly tonifies true yuan.
