The lower abdomen of women is the sea of the Chong and Ren vessels, where Qi and Blood exert their functions. Whenever cold is encountered, Qi and Blood coagulate and strike against each other, thus causing pain; upon receiving warmth, Qi harmonizes and flows freely, and the pain subsides. Furthermore, within the collateral vessels of the uterus and among the vaginal orifice, injuries from sexual intercourse, or external cold stagnating and restraining, can also cause pain. Applying hot objects for moxibustion-like warming, as well as applying hot salt compresses, can all stop the pain; this is the principle involved.

Heart and chest restlessness (Zaocao) is common among women, caused by fire stirring up phlegm. Some call it blood-related restlessness (Xuecao), which is often cured by eating stir-fried pig heart with dark blood. This follows the principle of "blood guiding blood back to its source," similar to how salt and plum induce salivation. However, it is preferable to use Xue Shi's Xuanfuhua Tang (Inula Decoction) to treat phlegm-cold qi in the heart, abdomen, and Zhongwan area, characterized by a sensation of fluid surging below the heart, restlessness, borborygmus, spitting clear saliva or spontaneous drooling, distension and urgency in the hypochondrium, and loss of appetite. These are caused by deficiency-cold of Stomach Qi. The pulse is deep, slow, wiry, and thin, confirming the diagnosis.
(Xue Shi) **Xuanfuhua Tang (Inula Decoction)**: Treats restlessness.
Ingredients: Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Rubrum), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Kugeng (Platycodonis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 0.5 qian each); Chi Fuling (Poria Cocos cum Ligno Rubra, 0.3 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct with 1.5 cups of water and seven slices of fresh ginger until reduced to 0.8 parts. Take far after meals.
**Zhuyu Siwu Tang (Evodia Four Substances Decoction)**: Treats blood-related restlessness with acid regurgitation and vomiting of sour fluids.
Ingredients: Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, soaked), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, stir-fried with ginger, equal parts).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 0.5 liang per dose, decoct with 1.5 cups of water until reduced to 0.7 parts. Take warm.
