In the past, there was a family where the mother-in-law saw objects as if they were curved bows, and straight lines of one chi in her field of vision also appeared like curved hooks. Local physicians witnessed this personally but could not cure it with medicine.
A scholar from Zhenyang had a fondness for alcohol, drinking several dou daily; once his craving arose, it could not be restrained. One night, after becoming heavily intoxicated, he vomited an object resembling a tongue. Initially, it had no visible orifices. However, when he desired to drink, it would tilt and stand upright. His family poured wine over it, and it immediately consumed the amount of wine he usually drank in a day before stopping. It was then thrown into fierce fire, splitting itself into more than ten pieces. From that time on, the scholar detested wine and ceased drinking.
The "Qixie Ji" records: During the Long'an era in Anlu County, Jiangxia Commandery, there were three brothers named Guo Tan. After the eldest brother suffered from an epidemic disease, he developed an immense appetite, consuming a dou of rice in a single day. His family supported him for five years until their wealth was exhausted. Later, while begging, he arrived at a household's front gate, received food, and then went to beg at the back door. The homeowner angrily said, "We already gave you food at the front gate; why come to the back door? Where will we get enough to give you?" He replied, "My stomach is extremely hungry; I truly did not know this was the back door." There were three beds of leeks in the garden near the gate, and he lay on the ground and ate two of them. Soon, he collapsed dazedly on the ground and vomited an object resembling a cage, which gradually shrank as it emerged from the ground. When others offered him food, he refused to eat. Placing food upon the vomited object caused it to instantly digest into water, and his illness soon recovered.
A poor scholar purchased a booklet of medical prescriptions from a general vendor. Among them was a prescription capable of treating pregnant women whose abdomens sounded like ringing bells. It involved grinding and sifting soil from the front of a mouse hole into powder. Taking two qian each time, mixed with musk-infused water, the ailment would heal immediately.
A woman suffered from a strange condition: whenever her abdomen bloated, sounds arose within, resembling drumbeats audible from afar. Passersby walking by the door often suspected the family was hosting a musical celebration. When the abdominal distension subsided, the drumming sound also ceased. This occurred once a month, and despite being treated by hundreds of physicians, its cause remained unknown.
