Prescriptions
Dalianqiao Yin (Great Forsythia Decoction): Treats pathogenic heat in the Heart Meridian of children. The Heart and Small Intestine are interior-exteriorly related; the Small Intestine is the reservoir for fluids, so it should always be kept unobstructed and patent. Stagnation leads to accumulation, smoothness leads to discharge, heat leads to astringency, and excess heat leads to strangury. This formula calms Heart Fire, allowing the Triple Burner (San Jiao) to flow smoothly naturally, resolving issues before they manifest as disease. Treating after the syndrome has formed often results in missed opportunities. It consists of fifteen ingredients, decocted in water. As soon as one feels internal heat accumulation, alternating chills and fever, or invasion by cold or wind pathogens, which are about to affect the Lung and Heart meridians, if the body resists and does not accept the pathogen, it may transmit to the Small Intestine, causing urinary retention, dysuria, red or white turbid urine, dribbling inability, stagnation of Ying and Wei Qi, leading to various diseases due to qi stagnation. These manifestations can be diverse, eventually leading to Liver Heat, red and swollen eyes, ulcers on lips and mouth, lack of body fluids, thick nasal discharge and saliva. This formula appropriately addresses both exterior and interior conditions, disperses convulsions and wind-stroke, and eliminates febrile toxins. The efficacy of Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) can indeed be called great.
