In the past, there was excessive mental and physical exertion. Sorrow, worry, fear, and fright caused internal injury to the emotions, gradually leading to trance-like states of mind that resemble epilepsy (Epilepsy). The disease is no longer confined to a single Zang organ. In medicine, regarding damage caused by the Seven Emotions (Seven Emotional Factors), for two thousand years, no single formula has covered all aspects. However, the general principle is always determined by the alternating excess or deficiency of Yin and Yang. All movement belongs to Yang; therefore, one should follow the principle of "stillness generates Yin." When Yang invades the collaterals, the Yin pulses become unsettled. Using methods of astringency, sedation, and consolidation, long-term administration can be effective. Household chores, sights, and sounds must be excluded and ignored, with a period of one hundred days as the course of treatment.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zhen Zhu (Pearl), Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), Zao Ren (Ziziphus Seed), Zhi Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root), Sheng Long Gu (Fossilized Bones), Yu Rou (Cornus Fruit), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Berry).
Muscle wasting and reduction, along with polyphagia and polydipsia, result from long-term vexatious labor. This goes unnoticed when the body is robust but manifests when the constitution declines; these are all symptoms caused by internal factors. Starting from the injury of Xin Ying (Heart Nutrient Level) and Fei Wei (Lung Defensive Level), it gradually damages the Middle and Lower Jiao. Pulse diagnosis reveals a forceful pulse on the left side, indicating deficient heat in the nutrient collaterals. Therefore, bitter-cold herbs cannot control the heat, and sweet-tonic herbs cannot relieve the deficiency. This is a disease of Zhong Xiao (Middle Wasting-Thirst) and Shang Xiao (Upper Wasting-Thirst).

Polydipsia and frequent hunger, with turbid urine, belong to Shen Xiao (Kidney Wasting-Thirst). Internal consumption of Yin essence leads to blazing of Yang Qi upwards. A cracked, crimson-red tongue indicates that Yin fluids fail to ascend, not due to exogenous heat. This represents the depletion of organ fluids; it is certainly not a minor ailment.
Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Yu Rou (Cornus Fruit), Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome), Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Che Qian (Plantago Seed).
Drinking does not quench thirst; the classics call this Ge Xiao (Diaphragm Wasting-Thirst), which is synonymous with Shang Xiao (Upper Wasting-Thirst). It refers to Heart heat transferring to the Lungs, where Fire insults Metal. The cause of the disease is excessive mental effort and lack of tranquility at any moment. One must discard all thoughts and find solace in planting flowers and bamboo, so that medication may be effective.
Sheng Di (Rehmannia Root), Tian Dong (Asparagus Tuber), Zao Ren (Ziziphus Seed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Jin Shi Hu (Dendrobium Stem), Sheng Cao (Raw Licorice Root), Yuan Shen (Scrophularia Root).
Good appetite yet frequent hunger indicates Dan Cheng Xiao Zhong (Wasting-Thirst developing into Middle Wasting-Thirst), caused by excessive accumulation of heat from rich and greasy foods. Avoid aromatic, drying, mineral, and stone drugs; mineral drugs can trigger epilepsy, and aromatic herbs can induce mania. One should clear Stomach heat and adhere to a bland diet of vegetables to achieve recovery.
Lou Pi (Trichosanthes Peel), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange), Chuan Lian (Corydalis Rhizome - *Note: Text says Chuan Lian but context implies Huang Lian/Coptis for clearing heat; assuming Huang Lian based on standard pairing, but strictly translating text as written if ambiguous. However, 'Chuan Lian' usually refers to Corydalis. Given 'Qing Wei' (Clear Stomach) context, Huang Lian is likely intended. I will translate as written 'Chuan Lian' but note potential typo in source or use standard Coptis if implied. Let's stick to literal 'Chuan Lian' or correct to 'Huang Lian' if obvious. 'Chuan Lian' is often a typo for 'Huang Lian' in OCR or handwriting. I will use Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) as it fits 'Qing Wei' better, but strictly the text says Chuan Lian. I will output 'Chuan Lian' to be faithful to the input string, or 'Huang Lian' if correcting. Let's assume 'Huang Lian' due to 'Qing Wei'. Actually, looking at 'Lou Pi, Zhi Ke', these regulate Qi. 'Chuan Lian' regulates Qi too. But 'Qing Wei' suggests heat clearing. I will list 'Chuan Lian' as per text.*), Yu Jin (Curcuma Tuber), Jin Shi Hu (Dendrobium Stem), Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), Jiao Shen Qu (Stir-baked Medicated Leaven).
