Bai cao shuang (Soot from the kitchen chimney) mixed with wine is applied to the underside of the tongue.
Sheng pu huang (Raw Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma et Radix) is ground into powder and applied externally.
Ji guan xue (Cock's comb blood) is applied on the tongue and swallowed, which immediately eliminates the condition.
(The lesion resembles a boot nail but is slightly longer; first puncture the site with a small knife, then apply treatment.)
Zi pao san (Purple Robe Powder) is insufflated into the mouth, followed by oral administration of Jia wei Gan Jie Tang (Modified Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) with one liang of fresh Ju hua (Chrysanthemi Flos); the root may also be used. If puncture is not feasible, Bing peng san (Ice and Borax Powder) is applied with the tip of a chopstick six or seven times, followed by insufflation of medicine; oral medication is also effective.
The tip of the tongue is pricked with a silver needle to drain all the foul blood, then coated with la zhu you (Beeswax/Candle wax oil), resulting in immediate recovery.
Xi niu huang (Rhinoceros Horn - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Zhu sha (Cinnabar) (each 1 fen), Xuan jing shi (Nephrite/Jade stone) (2 liang) are ground into fine powder. After pricking the tongue tip to release purple blood, this powder is applied for immediate recovery.
When the flesh at the root of the tongue is swollen, overlapping, and protruding, appearing short and small like a tongue, Huang bo (Phellodendri Cortex) soaked in zhu li (Bamboo sap) overnight is used; the juice is applied as drops.
Half a grain of Ba dou (Crotonis Fructus) and four or five grains of rice are pounded together into a cake, sized like a soybean, and applied to the Yin tang acupoint (located between the eyebrows). When blisters form around the area, it is removed, leading to recovery. This is effective for various tongue diseases.
When the tip of the tongue is swollen, filling the mouth, rigid as wood, and immobile, Bi ma zi rou (Castoris Semen endosperm) is pounded into a paste. Oil is extracted using paper, the paper is rolled into a strip, ignited, and extinguished. The smoke is directed towards the tongue to eliminate swelling. If the underside of the tongue is swollen, it is pricked with a silver needle to bleed, then treated with guo mo yan (soot from the bottom of a pot, preferably from burning grass), mixed with thick Ma you (Sesame oil) for application. Reapply after removal, or mix with water for application.
Pu huang (Polygoni Cuspidati Pollen) is ground into powder and frequently applied to the tongue, causing the swelling to subside naturally.
Jiang can (Bombyx Batryticatus) is ground into powder and insufflated, proving highly effective for expectoration.
Sudden cessation of breath is named "She [Xun]" (Tongue Mushroom/Polyp).
Zao fan (Alum) is used, treating it similarly to the four formulas above for tongue swelling.
(This is a malignant condition. Initially resembling a bean, it gradually enlarges to resemble a mushroom. It is painful, red, ulcerated, and lacks skin. Symptoms are lighter in the morning and heavier in the evening, caused by heat-toxin of the Heart and Spleen.)
Peng sha (Borax), Ren zhong bai (Human placenta ash) (each 5 fen), Wa shang qing tai (Green moss on roof tiles), Wa song (Pseudoscleropodium purum growing on tiles), Tang ji fen (Chicken manure) (each 1 qian).
Two silver pots are used. The medicines are placed inside and sealed tightly. The exterior is sealed with salt mud and calcined over charcoal fire until red hot. The process lasts for three incense sticks' worth of time. After cooling, the pots are opened, and Mei hua Bing pian (Platycodon/Borneol - specifically plum-blossom shaped borneol) and She xiang (Moschus) (each 1 fen) are added. The mixture is ground into fine powder. Before use, a magnetic needle is used to prick the bloody fungal growth. A small amount of this powder is applied, covered with Pu huang powder. Internally, Er Chen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) is administered with added Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), and Bo he (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) decocted and taken orally.
