Zhu Yangzhi's younger brother's wife initially suffered from red eyes. After taking medicine, the condition gradually progressed to severe swelling and redness of the entire face, high fever, and coma, leaving physicians helpless. Wang Mengying palpated the pulse, which was surging (Hong), full (Shi), slippery (Hua), and rapid (Shu); the tongue was crimson with extreme thirst, and there was slight abdominal distension. He prescribed: Rhubarb washed in wine (Jiu Xi Da Huang), Rhinoceros Horn (Xi Jiao), Scrophulariae Radix (Yuan Shen), Talcum (Hua Shi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu), Trichosanthis Radix (Hua Fen), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Yin Hua), Scutellariae Radix (Huang Qin), Forsythiae Fructus (Lian Qiao), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bo He), Chrysanthemi Flos (Ju Hua), and Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi). Using a double purgative method, she was completely cured.
A woman in Wang Tiancheng's grain brokerage, over fifty years old, initially suffered from redness in the left eye, which gradually progressed to fever. Physicians administered warming and dispersing herbs, leading to diarrhea and cold limbs. Subsequently, tonics were given, causing pain from an existing mass in the lower abdomen; the condition became extremely critical. She requested Wang Mengying's consultation. The pulse was very wiry (Xian) and full (Shi); the tongue was crimson with thirst. He prescribed: Cistanche Stem (Cong Rong), Tangerine Seed (Ju He), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yan Hu Suo), Turtle Shell (Gui Ban), Purple Quartz (Shi Ying), Cuttlebone (Piao Xiao), Poria (Fu Ling), Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi), Chinaberry Fruit (Lian Shi), Evodiae Fructus (Wu Zhu Yu), and Coptidis Rhizoma (Huang Lian). After several doses, she stabilized. She died a year later from another illness.
Jiang Luohua Ru Jun suffered from swelling and pain in both eyes, unable to open them even slightly. Physicians administered wind-dispelling herbs, leading to delirium and impending syncope. Wang Mengying was consulted. The pulse was surging and slippery; there was extreme thirst and constipation. He prescribed: Baihu Decoction (White Tiger Decoction) for two doses, resulting in immediate recovery.
The wife of the Weng family suffered from an eye disease that persisted from spring to summer without cure. It gradually progressed to epigastric stuffiness and distension, unbearable pain, inability to eat, constipation, and emaciation. Wang Mengying examined her and determined it was liver qi stagnation with phlegm obstruction, exacerbated by mistaken tonic use. The pulse was wiry, rapid, and slippery. He prescribed: Jinlingzi San combined with Xue Geng Jian (Soup), swallowing Danggui Longhui Wan and Mengshi Gun Tan Wan. Three doses showed effect; after more than twenty days, all symptoms disappeared. Sleep and appetite returned to normal.
Hu Jiquan's son, Zheng Guan, was six years old. He suffered from internal cataracts, followed by night fever, phlegm cough, and polyuria. Physicians treated him as pediatric deficiency. After months of tonic medication, the condition worsened daily. Wang Mengying palpated the pulse: the right side was large; there was thirst and yellow coating. He stated: Summerheat is latent in the lungs; the treatment should be clearing and resolving. Upon detailed inquiry into the cause, it was revealed that the illness began after smallpox, where residual pathogens remained uncleaned, and tonics were administered too early. He prescribed: Talcum (Hua Shi), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu), Trichosanthis Radix (Hua Fen), Mori Folium (Sang Ye), Imperatae Rhizoma (Mao Gen), Loquat Leaf (Pi Pa Ye), Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lu Gen), Benincasae Semen (Dong Gua Zi), and Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xing Ren). After two doses, rashes appeared all over the body. After another two doses, the rashes subsided and the coating transformed. Then, Talcum was removed, and Glehniae Radix (Sha Shen) was added. The heat receded first from the head and face, then the limbs, and finally the chest and back. Several days later, it receded from the abdomen. People marveled at the unusual manner of heat resolution. Wang Mengying explained: Since the heat had been latent for a long time, and greasy tonics had obstructed the system for half a year, how could it be cleared instantly? The momentum necessitated gradual clearing and removal. Once the heat was completely resolved, urination became regulated, phlegm cough gradually ceased, food intake increased, muscles became nourished, and the internal cataracts gradually cleared.
