Commentary states: The Heart belongs to Fire, and its Qi tends to flare upward; Drink (Yin) is water fluid, and its nature tends downward. When Ying and Wei (Defensive and Nutritive Qi) are harmonious and the Zang-Fu organs are balanced, water fluids descend normally and do not reverse to harm Heart Fire. If Drink stagnates and accumulates in the chest, causing Fire Qi to fail to circulate freely, it results in a pathological state of Yang deficiency and Yin excess. This manifests as a vague discomfort in the heart region, a desire to vomit accompanied by pain, which is termed "Stagnant Drink Heart Pain."
