The *Rites of Zhou* records that Surgeons (Yang Yi) are in charge of treating swelling sores (Zhong Yang), ulcerated sores (Kui Yang), metal wounds (Jin Yang - injuries caused by metal weapons), and fracture wounds (Zhe Yang), and there are five methods of nourishing with Qi. This is because when Qi is insufficient, blood does not circulate; when blood circulation is impaired, it fails to heal for a long time. This is what is referred to as Cold Sore (Leng Chuang). Generally, after various sores ulcerate, wind-cold pathogenic factors invade, leading to prolonged illness.
