[Discussion]
Women regard the Chong (Penetrating) and Ren (Conception) vessels as the sea of the meridians. These two vessels are exteriorly-interiorly related to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian, respectively, and primarily govern menstruation. If labor or injury damages the meridians, causing deficiency in the Chong and Ren vessels, they lose the ability to control Qi and Blood, resulting in menstruation that flows continuously without stopping.
For treating women with long-term deficiency of the Blood Sea, pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, continuous menstrual bleeding, sallow complexion, emaciation, weakness in the four limbs, and loss of appetite, use the Shizhong Huang Wan Formula:
[Herbs omitted for brevity]

[On Abdominal Pain During Menstruation]
[Discussion]
Menstruation is the surplus of Jing Blood. When harmonious, it arrives on schedule without being too early or too late. If Qi in the Chong and Ren vessels is deficient and invaded by Wind-Cold, Qi and vessel flow become obstructed, leading to irregular menstruation—either early or late, heavy or light. The Wind-Cold pathogen clashes with the menstrual flow, causing stiffness and rigidity in the lower back and sharp pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions during the flow.
For treating irregular menstruation with waist and abdominal pain, use the Fuling Yin Decoction:
[Bai Fuling, Danggui, Shaoyao, Zhigancao, Rougui - see original text]

The above eight herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 3 qianbi per dose, decocted in one sheng of water until reduced to 70%. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach.
For treating menstruation with abdominal pain, hardness below the umbilicus, and retention of blood stasis, use the Dahuang Tang Decoction:
[Dahuang, Xiaoyan, Danggui, Shaoyao, Xiongnu, Rougui - see original text]
The above seven herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 3 qianbi per dose, decocted in one sheng of water with three slices of fresh ginger until reduced to 70%. Strain and take warm. Stop taking after the blood stasis passes.

[Danggui, Shenggan Dihuang, Fangfeng, Shanzhuyu, Huangqi, Niuxi, etc. - see original text]
The above twelve herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 3 qianbi per dose, decocted in one sheng of water until reduced to 70%. Strain and take warm before meals.
For treating menstruation with unbearable abdominal pain, use the Wenjing Tang Decoction:
[Bai Fuling, Shaoyao, Tugua Gen, Mudan Pi, Dansha, Yiyiren - see original text]
