Commentary states: Infantile vomiting is caused by disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach. It may occur because milk is given immediately after crying or shouting has not subsided; or because the milk has been chilled, causing the infant to drink it. Both lead to vomiting. Generally, when an infant's crying has not settled and their breath is unregulated, giving milk immediately causes the Qi to remain rebellious, preventing the milk from descending. The milk stagnates in the chest and diaphragm, causing chest fullness and rapid breathing, thus leading to vomiting. If the nursing mother is exposed to cold, cold Qi enters the milk, spoiling it. If this spoiled milk is not removed and is instead given to the infant, it enters the stomach, causing abdominal distension and rebellious Qi, thereby also resulting in vomiting. Additionally, if infants bathe without avoiding wind and cold, wind-cold combats with Blood and Qi, generating latent heat in the Stomach, which also causes vomiting. One must carefully examine whether the signs and symptoms indicate cold or heat, and treat according to the appropriate principles.
