Commentary states: The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian governs the muscles. If a child has latent heat in the stomach, or it is complicated by retained cold, all will cause disharmony of the Stomach Qi. The Qi steams and stagnates, manifesting in the muscles, thus causing the child's body to be hot and sleepy. This condition is called "Wen Zhuang" (Warmth and Vigor/Febrile Condition). The symptom presentation of yellow and foul-smelling stool indicates latent heat; mild purgation will lead to recovery. If the stool is white with a sour, vinegar-like odor, it indicates retained food stagnation; mild purgation combined with dietary restriction will lead to recovery. In ancient methods, Long Dan Tang (Gentian Decoction) is used to remove latent heat, and Zi Shuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) is used to remove food stagnation. Treatment should follow these methods.

To treat infants just born, whose blood vessels are full and solid, presenting with alternating cold and heat, Wen Zhuang, convulsions and spasms of the four limbs, high fever accompanied by severe vomiting, if they can already accept supplementary food but digestion is poor, persistent high fever not resolving during the Bian Zheng (metabolic transformation) period, Qi of Ke Wu (external pathogenic influence from surprise/shock), and various types of Jing Xian (convulsive epilepsy), all are treated. Children under ten years old all take Long Dan Tang (Formula No. 1). This is a formula for infants just born. For those who have grown older in days and months, adjust the dosage sequentially according to this example. If it is known to be caused by Ke Wu and there is Qi stagnation, add Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) and Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root). The dosage refers to the amount of Long Dan: for a hundred-day-old infant, add three Zhu; for a two-hundred-day-old infant, add six Zhu; for a one-year-old infant, add half Liang. Other herbs are calculated proportionally.
