Commentary states: The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) mentions that excessive dampness leads to ru-xie (diarrhea with loose, watery stools). The *Jiayi Jing* (Classics of Difficulty) points out that cold pathogen lodging in the lower jiao transmits and transforms into ru-xie. The Spleen is the most yin organ among the five zang organs; its nature dislikes cold and dampness. Now, when cold-damp qi invades internally and lodges in the Spleen, it fails to assist Stomach qi in rotting and ripening food and fluids. This results in the failure to separate the clear from the turbid, causing water to enter the intestines. Due to deficiency and inability to control, diarrhea occurs like a hole leaking water, flowing downward with the qi, which is called ru-xie.
