Commentary states: The branch collaterals of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (Hand-Yangming Da Chang Jing) govern the mustache; the flourishing aspect of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (Foot-Shaoyang Dan Jing) manifests in the sideburns; and the radiance of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Foot-Shaoyin Shen Jing) appears in the hair. Although these three meridians belong to different pathways, they share the same source of blood and qi. Therefore, when internal blood and qi are abundant, they can ascend to nourish the mustache and hair. If the root organs are deficient and damaged, and the Chong and Du vessels are weak, causing essence and blood to fail in nourishment and bone marrow to dry up, the mustache and hair will turn gray or white, and in severe cases, fall out. Treatment should employ formulas that tonify essence and nourish blood, thereby transforming white hair back to black. Occasionally, teeth brushing is used to darken the mustache, likely because teeth are considered the surplus of bones, nourished by marrow.
[Di Jin Wan Formula]
