Discussion: The condition known as "Wind-induced Softness of the Legs" (Feng Jiao Ruan) is caused by insufficiency of Kidney Qi, allowing Wind-Dampness pathogens to invade. The Kidneys govern the waist and legs. If Kidney Qi is deficient, the bone marrow becomes weak, and Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi become depleted. Furthermore, internal invasion by Wind-Dampness flows into the lower limbs, causing dysfunction of the knee and ankle joints, resulting in weakness when walking.
Formula for Bi Xie Wan (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Pill) to treat Wind-Cold sinking downward, causing flaccidity and weakness of the waist and legs, and inability to walk with strength:
Bi Xie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, lightly stir-fried, 8 liang), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, remove sprouts, soak in wine, slice, and bake-dry, 4 liang), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen, soak in wine and pound separately, 2 liang).

Add the medicinal powder and continue boiling slowly over low heat. When ready to form pills, make them the size of paulownia seeds.
