The water they drink cannot be transformed and metabolized, remaining stagnant in the hypochondriac region. This leads to an entrenched disease characterized by hard, indigestible masses. It may arise from dietary injury or agitation, emotional worry causing Qi stagnation, or inhalation of wind-cold pathogens, triggering the onset of the disease. The pathology originates below the ribs and on both sides of the umbilicus, resembling a transverse arm, which is tender to pressure.
