Indicated for the "Seven Qi" (Seven Types of Pathogenic Qi) disorders. The Seven Qi refer to Cold Qi, Heat Qi, Anger Qi, Resentment Qi (Qi of indignation), Joy Qi, Worry Qi, and Sorrow Qi. Diseases caused by these qi imbalances all result in accumulations (masses), which are hard and firm like a cup, accompanied by severe colic pain in the heart and abdomen, inability to eat, intermittent onset and remission, and extreme suffering during attacks. Generally, Cold Qi manifests as vomiting and regurgitation with chest and epigastric fullness; Heat Qi manifests as mental confusion, dizziness, vertigo, and seminal emission; Anger Qi manifests as uncontrollable irritability, heat and pain rushing up to the heart, shortness of breath nearly leading to suffocation, and difficulty breathing; Resentment Qi manifests as abdominal accumulation and fullness, preventing eating and drinking; Joy Qi manifests as an inability to walk quickly or stand for long periods; Worry Qi manifests as an inability to engage in strenuous labor and restless sleep; Sorrow Qi manifests as forgetfulness resembling states of anger or excessive joy, edema of the four limbs, and immobility. This formula also treats residual conditions following wind-stroke after childbirth.
