Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (each 5 liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (each 3 liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (1 liang), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (12 pieces).
The above seven herbs are coarsely crushed, decocted in 9 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng, the dregs are filtered out, and 8 ge of white honey is added. It is warmed over a gentle fire and divided into four doses; dysentery will cease.
Another method uses one black-bone hen; its broth is used to decoct the herbs.
If there has been a previous injury to a fetus at nine months of gestation, this formula should be taken prophylactically.
Zhushen (Porcinis Ren) (one piece), Fuling (Poria), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Cacuminis), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 3 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (4 liang), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 sheng), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) (one medium-sized piece), Dadou (Sojae Semen) (3 he).
The above ten herbs are coarsely crushed. The Zhushen is first decocted in 1 dou of water until cooked, then removed. The remaining herbs are added, and the mixture is decocted until reduced to 3.5 sheng. It is divided into four doses: three times during the day and once at night. A new dose is prepared every ten days.
At full term of ten months of pregnancy, the five zang organs are fully developed, the six fu organs are unobstructed, and qi from heaven and earth is gathered in the dantian. Thus, the joints and spirit are complete, awaiting the time for birth.
In the first month of pregnancy, the embryo begins to form; in the second month, it becomes like paste; in the third month, the fetal sac forms; in the fourth month, the body shape is established; in the fifth month, movement occurs; in the sixth month, bones and tendons are set; in the seventh month, hair grows; in the eighth month, the internal organs are functional; in the ninth month, grain qi enters the stomach; in the tenth month, all spirits are complete. When the days are full, delivery occurs. It is appropriate to take "slippery fetus" medicines starting from the tenth month.
This formula nourishes the fetus and facilitates easy delivery when taken near term.
Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 jin), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 3 liang), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) (5 he; if there is heat, replace with 5 he of Damaoren (Cannabis Semen)).
The above four herbs are coarsely crushed, moistened with clear wine, left overnight to set, and then decocted with 4 sheng of lard. Simmer over a gentle fire until the lard turns red like blood. Strain through fresh cloth to remove dregs. Take an amount the size of a jujube daily, dissolved in wine. Do not take it prematurely (or against the proper timing). It can be taken only when approaching term; this traditional usage has proven effective.
This formula facilitates easy delivery, ensures the mother remains healthy, and prevents pain during childbirth if taken daily for one month prior to delivery. After thirty days, the mother's mobility remains normal, and the infant is born without the mother feeling any distress.
