(Six Treatises, Fifteen Prescriptions, Six Moxibustion Methods, Three Methods for Changing Female to Male)
Treatise: Women have specialized medical prescriptions because of the differences in their pregnancy, childbirth, metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), and trauma. Therefore, women's diseases are ten times more difficult to treat than men's. The Classics state that women are the gathering place of all Yin energies and often dwell with dampness. After the age of fourteen, Yin energy floats and overflows; various thoughts linger in the mind, injuring the five Zang organs internally and damaging physical appearance externally. Menstrual blood may remain or flow out, alternating back and forth; stasis coagulates, cutting off the meridians midway. The cases of injury and miscarriage cannot be fully enumerated. However, when the deficiency and excess of the five Zang organs intermingle, evil blood leaks internally, and Qi and pulses are exhausted; or when diet is unregulated, causing various injuries; or when sores and wounds have not healed yet sexual intercourse occurs; or when defecating on a suspended toilet, wind enters from below, forming twelve chronic stubborn diseases. Hence, separate prescriptions for women are established. If illnesses arise from the seasonal solar terms, or are caused by deficiency/excess and cold/heat, they are the same as in men. Only those who are pregnant and concurrently ill must avoid toxic drugs. Miscellaneous diseases identical to men's are scattered in other volumes and can be known. However, women have more desires than men and suffer diseases twice as much as men. Added to this are affectionate attachments, love and hate, jealousy, worry, and anger; their emotions are deeply rooted and firm, beyond self-control. Thus, the roots of disease are deep, and healing is difficult. Therefore, families concerned with health preservation should specially teach their children to study these three volumes of women's prescriptions, making them proficient, so that in times of emergency, there would be no need for fear or anxiety. The four virtues are the pivot of a woman's life establishment; childbearing is the primary concern of a woman's life and death. If one does not understand these clearly, how can one avoid premature death? Therefore, even wet nurses and tutors must learn these. They should frequently copy a volume and carry it with them to prevent unforeseen events.
Treatise: Human nature generally wishes to be superior to others in virtue. Yet, when illness strikes, one is inferior to others. Regarding learning, people follow their feelings and material things, falling into idleness, unwilling to focus solely on pushing forward to grasp the ultimate principles. Instead, they waste time in vain, gaining nothing until death. Marriage and raising offspring are the foundation of human relations and the basis of royal transformation (social order). The Sages established teachings and discussed them thoroughly, but later generations fail to comprehend their essence. When facing practical matters, they become confused like fools. This is the error of merely wishing to be virtuous while being unable to achieve it; it is truly failing to understand the true meaning of "being virtuous" and blindly pursuing empty fame, ending up useless. Now, I fully describe the methods for seeking offspring to leave for future generations. Those with shared aspirations may wish to read them.
Treatise: Those who wish to conceive should first know the natal destiny of both husband and wife, the mutual generation of the Five Elements, and compatibility with virtue. Furthermore, the natal destiny should not fall into the states of Zi (Child), Xiu (Rest), Fei (Abandoned), Si (Dead), or Mu (Grave). In such cases, conception will surely succeed. If the natal destiny involves mutual restriction of the Five Elements, or encounters punishment, killing, breaking, or clashing, and falls into the states of Zi, Xiu, Fei, Si, or Mu, then conception is absolutely impossible. One must not give it any thought. Even if conceived, it will eventually bring trouble to others. If there is mutual generation and encounter with fortune and virtue, one must still follow the methods and prescriptions to avoid various taboos. Then the born son will be perfect in every way, which is hard to fully describe (The method of taboos, calculating auspicious days for conception based on prosperous phases and noble stars, is in Volume 27).
Treatise: Generally, infertility is caused by both husband and wife suffering from the Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, leading to emaciation and myriad diseases, resulting in the affliction of having no heirs. The treatment method is for the man to take Qizi San (Seven Seeds Powder) and for the woman to take Zishimen Dongwu Wan (Purple Gate Winter Sweet Pill) and use the Zu Yao Dangbao Tang (Sitting Medicine Womb-Cleansing Decoction). There will be no case where offspring are not produced.
