(Two Treatises, Sixty-Nine Prescriptions)
The treatise states: In cases of burns, one must be cautious and absolutely avoid washing with cold water. If a burn wound encounters cold, the heat will penetrate deeper into the bones, damaging the muscles and bones, making it difficult to heal. Immediately after being burned, one should urgently approach a fire to warm the area; although the pain is severe, one must endure it strongly. After about the time it takes to eat one meal, the pain will cease, which is a miraculous effect. To treat unconsciousness caused by burns, drink newly collected urine that has been cooled, or drink honey mixed with cold water. If the jaw is clenched, pry it open and administer the liquid, then treat with the following prescriptions.
Prescription for Treating Burns:
Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi, 40 fruits)
Akebia Caulis (Bai Lian)
Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) (each 5 liang)
Crush the above three ingredients. Decoct them in 5 sheng of water and 1 sheng of oil until the water vapor dissipates. Strain the dregs and wait for the liquid to cool. Use this liquid to wash the affected area to drain away the heat-fire toxin, thereby relieving the tension in the skin and muscle. Use continuously for two days, applying any ointment as desired, or treating with decoctions or powders.
Another Prescription:
Roast sesame seeds until cooked, grind into powder, and mix with Gardenia pulp to apply. The thicker the application, the better. If the sore has already formed, burn white sugar into ash, sprinkle the powder on the wound, and it will dry up and heal immediately.
Prescription for Treating Burn Wounds:
One dead rat head. Decoct in lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month until completely melted. Apply to the wound. Reapply when dry. This also treats burn wounds in children.
Prescription for Treating Ulcerated and Necrotic Burn Wounds:
Cut Phellodendron Bark (Bo Bai Pi). Soak it properly in lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month. Boil for four or five boils. When the color changes, strain the dregs and apply to the sore. (According to *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*, use peach...)
Another Prescription:
Phellodendron Bark (Bo Bai Pi)
Patrinia Herb (She Xian)
Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di Huang)
Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi)
Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin)
Bitter Bamboo Leaves (Ku Zhu Ye) (each 1 fen)
Crush the above six ingredients. Decoct them in 1 jin 1/2 of sheep marrow through three cycles of boiling and cooling. Strain the dregs. Apply while cool. (According to *Yao Yan Fang*, use 4 liang of Rehmannia Root).
Another Prescription:
Chew Eucommia Bark (Yu Bai Pi) until soft and apply.
Prescription for Treating Flesh Rot Caused by Scalding:
Almond (Xing Ren)
Aconite Root (Fu Zi) (each 2 liang)
Licorice Root (Gan Cao) (1 liang)
Mutton Fat (Yang Zhi) (5 liang)
Pine Resin (Song Zhi) (size of a chicken egg)
Crush the above five ingredients. Decoct them in 5 liang of pure lard (not contaminated with water). Apply to the affected area.
