[Method for Refining Pine Resin]
Take seven *jin* (approx. 3.5 kg) of pine resin (*Songzhi*). Boil the resin three times in one *shi* (approx. 100 liters) of lye water made from mulch ash. Remove it and place it in cold water to solidify, then boil it again. Repeat this process ten times in total until the resin turns white and is ready for consumption. The pine resin found in You County, southeast of Hengzhou, differs from pine resin found elsewhere.
[Fu Ling Paste Formula - Basic Preparation]
Take ten *jin* of Poria (*Fuling*), remove the skin, soak it in wine, seal tightly, and leave for fifteen days before removing it. Take a dose equivalent to the size of a Go stone, three times daily; alternatively, grind it into powder and take one *cunbi* (a square-inch measure) per dose. Whenever administering Poria, it should be boiled in decoction for four or five boils, or soaked in water for six to seven days.
[Fu Ling Paste Formula - Detailed Recipe and Preparation]
Poria (*Fuling*) [five *jin*, boiled ten times in lye water, ten times in grain wash water, and ten times in clear water]. Pine Resin (*Songzhi*) [five *jin*, processed according to the method for Poria, but boiled forty times per cycle]. White Honey (*Baimi*) [three *jin*, boiled until all foam disappears]. Fresh Asparagus Root (*Sheng Tianmendong*) [five *jin*, remove heart and skin, dry in the sun, and grind into powder]. Beeswax (*La*) and Beef Tallow (*Niusu*) [each three *jin*, refined thirty times].
The above six ingredients are each crushed and sifted. Using a copper vessel placed over boiling water (double boiler), first add the beef tallow, then the beeswax, then the honey. Once melted, add the powdered herbs. Stir vigorously without stopping to ensure thorough mixing. Transfer to a ceramic jar, seal tightly to prevent air leakage.
One day before taking the medicine, fast. However, prior to fasting, eat a good meal until fully satiated, then begin the fast. Immediately consume two *liang* (approx. 60 g) of the paste. After twenty days, increase the dose to four *liang*. After another twenty days, increase to eight *liang*. Form into small pills, with the dosage determined by what can be swallowed easily. For the second course, start with four *liang*; after twenty days, take eight *liang*; after another twenty days, take two *liang*. For the third course, start with eight *liang*; after twenty days, take two *liang*; after another twenty days, take four *liang*. The total duration is one hundred eighty days. After the medicine is prepared, continue taking three pills as a tonic; abstaining is also acceptable. Generally, regulate the diet with tallow and honey. It is best to take one *sheng* (approx. 200 ml) of fine wine with it.
Medicine preparation must be conducted on auspicious "Wang" or "Xiang" days of the four seasons. Specifically avoid days associated with punishment, killing, aversion, Si Ji, Xiu Fei, etc., as these are highly inauspicious. This is the method of Peng Zu.
(In *Qianjin Yifang*, this formula is named: Ningling Gao).
Poria (*Fuling*) [cleaned, skin removed], Pine Resin (*Songzhi*) [each twenty-four *jin*], Pine Kernels (*Songziren*), and Biota Seeds (*Baiziren*) [each twelve *jin*].
Process the above four ingredients according to the methods described. Do not refine the Pine Kernels and Biota Seeds; simply crush and sift them. Take two *dou* and four *jin* of white honey, place in a copper vessel over boiling water, and simmer gently for one day and one night. Add the ingredients sequentially, stirring to blend well. Continue simmering gently for seven days and seven nights. Form into pills the size of small dates. Take seven pills per dose, three times daily. If practicing grain avoidance (*Juegu*), take enough to feel full in one sitting, which will result in a light body, bright eyes, and anti-aging effects. (Some versions following this formula include Fu Ling Su, Xingren Su, and Dihuang Su, but these are absent in other editions. Furthermore, they are already recorded in *Qianjin Yifang*, so they are not added here.)
