[Guangji Shenming Gao (Broad Benefit Divine Paste)] Indicated for various stubborn Bi syndromes (painful obstruction syndrome) caused by wind pathogens, stiffness and dysfunction of sinews and vessels, as well as a prescription for treating tinea and pruritus of various sores.
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (all sliced), Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) (remove seeds), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (each one sheng), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (thirty pieces, remove skin and slice), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each two liang, sliced).
The above ten medicinal materials are soaked in Kujiu (vinegar) overnight until moistened. Then add one dou of Chenglian Zhugao (refined lard), simmer over low heat for about ten boils. For external lesions, apply topically; for internal conditions, take orally with wine, dosage size of a jujue pit (jujube seed). It treats all kinds of sores such as scabies and tinea, eliminates various wind diseases, and can also be used for topical application on traumatic injuries such as fractures and bruises. (Cui Shi stated: Soaking the dregs in wine and taking them orally also greatly treats various diseases.)
[Cui Shi Chen Yuan Gao] Si Yi, Governor of Kuaiji, respectfully submits this letter to His Majesty the Emperor: Si Yi was fortunate enough to govern the commandery. After six years of service, residing in a damp underground area, he suffered from Bi syndrome, decreased appetite, ineffective medical treatment, and his life hung in the balance. Chen Yuan, a Daoist priest from Cangwu, sold medicine in the market. Si Yi took the medicine for topical application, twice daily, and recovered after fifteen days. Si Yi's son once fell from a horse, suffering from severe lower back pain that worsened during cloudy or rainy weather. Si Yi applied Chen Yuan's paste, and he recovered immediately. Si Yi's wife, aged forty-five, suffered from abdominal accumulation for three years. Si Yi again obtained the paste from Chen Yuan for topical application, and she recovered after six days when old food stagnation was expelled. Guo Shao, under Si Yi's jurisdiction, suffered from dizziness. Si Yi applied the paste, and after three days, two sheng of clear fluid was discharged from the nose, and the illness was cured. Knowing the efficacy of Chen Yuan's medicine, Si Yi respectfully submits the original formula.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (three liang, one prescription specifies Longxi origin), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) (two jin, crushed to extract juice), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (three liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (two liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (one liang), Tianxiong (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix) (three liang, remove skin), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (two liang), Dansha (Cinnabaris) (one liang, ground), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (two liang), Xionghuang (Realgar) (two and a half liang, ground), Wutou (Aconiti Radix) (three liang), Kujiu (vinegar) (three sheng), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (one liang), Songzhi (Pini Resina) (half jin), Buzhongshui Zhuzhi (lard free from water contamination) (ten jin, refined and strained).
The above fifteen medicinal materials are cut into small pieces, soaked overnight in Shengdihuang juice and vinegar. Add the Zhuzhi (lard) to the herbs, simmer over low heat for fifteen boils. Strain to remove dregs when the paste is ready. Add the powdered Dansha and other ingredients, stir thoroughly. Do not allow women, chickens, dogs, mourners, persons with malignant diseases, persons with incomplete limbs, or children to see this process. If someone suffers from chest, hypochondriac, or back pain, taking this medicine will result in the discharge of two sheng of substance resembling egg white within seven days, leading to recovery. Someone suffering long-term abdominal accumulation like a cup shape recovers after fifteen days of topical application. Another person suffering from qi accumulation around the navel, shaped like a hand, recovers after topical application, discharging approximately one sheng of yellow substance resembling melon pulp. Someone suffering from severe abdominal pain radiating to the back for several years recovers after topical application, discharging thirty worm-like substances. A woman suffering from amenorrhea and infertility for several years recovers after topical application to the lower abdomen and oral intake of a dose the size of an apricot kernel, discharging two sheng of metrorrhagia within ten days, and conceiving that year. It also treats wind-induced pruritic swelling, raised like soybeans, recovering after five days of topical application. Elderly and young people suffering from cold pain in feet and knees recover after five days of topical application. Someone suffering from headache, neck pain, chills, fever, and scrofula recovers after applying to the head and affected areas. Someone suffering from darkened face and emaciation due to heart and abdominal pathology recovers after taking the medicine and discharging more than one sheng of substance resembling wine lees. Internal and external wind pathogens and abdominal accumulations can be treated with this medicine; it cures hundreds of diseases. The number of patients treated is countless and cannot be fully recorded.
[Another Wu Gao (Black Paste)] Treats all sores, draws out pus, promotes tissue regeneration, and kills parasites within sores.
Wuma You (Sesami Oil) (one sheng), Huangdan (Lithargyrum) (two liang of superior quality, sifted), La (Beeswax) (one liang, refined and filtered), Xunluxiang (Boswelliae Resina / Frankincense) (one liang, ground, using Ru Xiang type), Songzhi (Pini Resina) (half liang, ground). All measurements use large sheng and liang.
The above five medicinal materials: Simmer the oil over slow heat until reduced by one-third. Pour into a cauldron and let cool. Then add Huangdan. Heat again until reduced by another one-third. Stop heating and let cool. Next, add the powdered Xunluxiang. Heat until completely melted. Then add La and Songzhi. Test the consistency by dropping onto an iron plate. Adjust until the hardness is appropriate, then stop. First, inquire about the nature of the sore. If the sore is hot in nature, remove Xunluxiang and Songzhi. If the sore has not healed for a long time, indicating cold nature, follow the prescription exactly. For dressing whip marks (Zhang Chuang), if using one sheng of oil, mix with Banhe (half he) of Shengdihuang juice. Fry two da liang of Huangdan and one xiao liang of La. Follow the rest of the method above. This paste does not need to be too hard.
[Jin Xiao Lianzi Cao Gao (Near-Efficacy Lotus Herb Paste)] Treats all wind pathogens, deafness, dim vision, whitening of hair, strengthens teeth, and prolongs life. Originally a Brahman formula.

Mix the above four medicinal materials in a pot and simmer. Use slow heat to boil until bubbles resemble fish eyes. Stir continuously without stopping. When the foam disappears and the liquid becomes clear, filter and store in an airtight container. It is said that the original formula includes Qinglian Rui (Green Lotus Stamen) 6 fen, Longnao Hua (Borneol Flower? likely referring to a specific aromatic ingredient or error for Longnao/Borneolum Syntheticum) 3 fen, Yujin (Curcumae Radix) 2 fen, all ground. First, simmer the main herbs until reduced by one-third. Then add the juices and oils. When the paste is ready, for each application, lie supine with head hanging below the bed level. Instill a quantity the size of a small bean into each nostril. Remain in this position for a long time before rising. Spit out saliva; do not swallow it. After finishing, drink a small amount of hot water. Continue instillation for one year; white hair turns black, and bald areas grow hair. Obtained from Han Shuzi, verified effective every time.
