The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: The pharyngeal gate (Yanmen, the opening of the throat) corresponds to the five zang and six fu organs. It is the pathway through which divine qi (Shenqi, vital spirit and energy) circulates back and forth, and it is the channel through which yin and yang are either unobstructed or blocked. The larynx, laryngeal sac, and tongue are all involved in the regulation of body fluids (Jinye).
Additionally, for treating throat obstruction affecting the Gallbladder Fu organ, there is the Mother Ginger Wine Prescription for injured pharyngeal gate causing hoarseness:
Mother Ginger Juice (2 sheng), Ox Marrow, Butter, Oil (each 1 sheng, separately heated until hot), Cinnamon Heart (Guixin), Sichuan Pepper (Qinjiao) (each 4 fen), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Angelica Pubescens Root (Duhuo) (each 5 fen), Saposhnikovia Divaricata Root (Fangfeng) (6 fen).
Take the above nine ingredients. Pound five of them, sift into powder, mix with ginger juice, and decoct until they are thoroughly moistened. Add ox marrow, butter, and oil, stirring to blend. Simmer over low heat, lifting and lowering three times. Take in the early morning. (From Volume VI)
The *Shanfan Lun* (Discourse on Eliminating Complexity) states: Regarding the "Six Extremes" (Liuji), Heaven's Qi connects with the Lung; Earth's Qi connects with the pharynx; Wind Qi responds to the Liver; Thunder Qi moves the Heart. (The *Suwen* writes this as Grain Qi... Five...)
The *Shanfan Lun* states: Generally, tendon extremes (Jinji) are governed by the Liver. The Liver governs the tendons, and tendons combine with the Liver. When the Liver is diseased, symptoms manifest from the tendons. It is also said: Contracting disease in spring is called Tendon Bi (Jinbi). Deficiency leads to... its... then prone to... and rising... For nine days... testicles and... stiffness. Metal same.
Additionally, for treating tendon excess extreme characterized by irritability, dry mouth, frequent anger, and bodily restlessness, use Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction) to regulate tendons, stop anger, and calm qi:
Scutellaria Baicalensis Root (Huangqin), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Mulberry Twig Bark (Baizhepi - thornless, each 3 liang), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Thunberg Fritillary Stem (Tongcao), Paeonia Lactiflora Root (Shaoyao) (each 4 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao - roasted), Cinnamon Heart (Guixin) (each 2 liang), Jujube (Dazao - 40 pieces, split and pitted), Gypsum (Shigao - 8 liang, crushed and wrapped in cotton), Bamboo Leaves (Zhuye - cut, 1 sheng).
Cut the above eleven ingredients. Decoct in 9 sheng of water until 3 sheng remain. Remove dregs. Divide into three doses. Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage (Songcai), raw green onion, peach/plum, sparrow meat, etc.
Additionally, for treating tendon excess extreme characterized by cough, where coughing causes contraction and pain in both hypochondriac regions, and severe pain prevents movement, use Jupi Tongqi Tang (Tangerine Peel Qi-Regulating Decoction):
Citrus Reticulata Peel (Jupi - 4 liang), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Gypsum (Shigao - crushed and wrapped in cotton, each 5 liang), Cinnamon Heart (Guixin), Asarum Root (Xixin), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui), Poria (Fuling) (each 3 liang), Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi - 1 sheng, roasted and wrapped separately).
