Cui's Da Wuxiang Decoction (Great Five-Aromatic Decoction) treats toxic vapors (pathogenic qi with infectious properties), manifesting as swelling and pain in the muscles, knotted pulse with alternating chills and fever, resembling scrofula (tuberculous lymphadenitis of the neck) with pain so severe that it cannot be touched. In acute cases, death may occur within a few days. The patient suffers from mental distress and restlessness; the decoction should be administered immediately, and the dregs applied externally to the swollen area above the affected vessels.
Qingmuxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Jishe Xiang (Lobeliae Flos), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) [each 5 fen], Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, processed into powder), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) [each 3 fen], Xunluxiang (Boswelliae Fructus) [4 fen], Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [2 fen].
The above twelve ingredients are coarsely crushed. Boil in seven sheng of water until two sheng remain. Divide into three doses. If not cured, continue administration. If the patient exhibits "se se" aversion to cold (shivering chills), add one medium-sized Pao Fu Zi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix), roasted and broken into eight pieces. Avoid raw/cold foods, Songcai (Brassica vegetables), Haizao (Sargassum), pork, cold water, raw vegetables, and Wu Xin (the five pungent spices: garlic, onion, leek, Chinese chive, and allium victorialis). This formula is identical to that in *Gu Jin Lu Yan*.
Another Wuxiang Decoction for treating toxic swellings and scrofula.
Shexiang (Moschus), Qingmuxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Jishe Xiang (Lobeliae Flos), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Xunluxiang (Boswelliae Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) [each 3 fen], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [5 fen].
The above ten ingredients are coarsely crushed. Boil in six sheng of water until two sheng remain. Strain, add Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), and divide into two doses. Administer the second dose after an interval equivalent to walking seven or eight li. This formula also treats sudden cases of Shi Zhu (a chronic wasting disease attributed to miasma) and malignant qi. (From Volume 5)
*Jing Xin Lu* Shegan Decoction for treating E Du (severe toxic sores), characterized by body stiffness and pain, and scrofula.
Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [each 2 liang], Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) [each 4 liang], Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 40 seeds, skin and tips removed).
The above six ingredients are cut. Boil in four sheng of water until three sheng remain. Strain and divide into three doses. Dietary restrictions are the same as above. (From Volume 5)
Another Shengma Decoction for treating Wind-Du causing difficulty in swallowing fluids, and for treating carbuncles/swellings.
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) [each 4 liang], Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma) [3 liang], Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, tips and skin removed) [3 liang], Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed) [2 liang], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) [2 liang], Fengxiang (Liquidambaris Resina), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) [each 3 liang].
The above eight ingredients are cut. Boil in eight sheng of water until reduced (text says "half portion," likely implying reduction to a specific volume). Divide into three doses. Dietary restrictions are the same as above. (From Volume 3)
