[Pathogenesis] The so-called "Tai Chi" (Fetal Redness) refers to the condition where, immediately after birth, the infant's eyes are not washed clean, causing foul fluids to soak into the eyes, resulting in redness and ulceration of the eyelids that does not heal even as the child grows. Hence it is called "Tai Chi". (From Volume 28)
Prescription from *Qianjin Fang* for treating Tai Chi eye:
Take locust tree branches (*Cedrela sinensis*) as thick as a horsewhip and two chi long with the head cut evenly. Place one spoonful of sesame oil (*Sesami Oleum*) in a copper bowl. In the morning, have a young boy grind it with water until it makes a sound. Apply this mixture to the eyes at night.
Apply three times daily; stop when healed.
Cui Shi's prescription for treating chronic eye redness lasting thirty to fifty years, as well as Tai Chi. (Western Region method, effective as demonstrated by Chang Caidao, Vice Director of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices):
Raw black sesame oil (*Sesamum indicum L.* seed oil) (amount approximating half an eggshell, placed in a copper vessel, ground with fine oyster shell stone until it cannot be ground further). Prepared mugwort (*Artemisia argyi* leaf), three sheng. Apricot kernels (*Prunus armeniaca* seed), one sheng, remove tips and skins. Coptis rhizome (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), one liang. Chicken manure (*Galli faex*), one sheng. Salt (*Natrii Chloridum*), one he. Tangled hair (approximate volume of half a bowl).
The above seven ingredients: Dig a pit shaped like a bottle, small mouth and large bottom, burn until dry. Open a small ventilation hole separately. Layer the aforementioned medicines and mugwort inside the pit, resembling moxa cones. Ignite and burn. Cover the pit mouth with the copper vessel used for grinding previously. When the smoke is exhausted, collect the soot/oil residue from the copper vessel and apply it to the eye sores.
Another prescription:
Lead subacetate (*Cerussa*, Hu Fen), six fen. Burying plum kernel (*Prunus persica* var. *ansu* seed or related species, Rui Ren), four fen.
The above two ingredients: First grind the Rui Ren until crushed, mix with Hu Fen, and grind thoroughly again. Crush raw hemp seeds (*Cannabis sativa* seed) to make candles, ignite them. Separately, render pig lard (*Suis Adeps*) over the candle flame to prepare the medicine.
Another prescription for treating chronic eye redness:
Take forty-nine ancient coins with square holes. Fill the central hole completely with rock salt powder (*Lapis Salis*). On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month at noon, place the coin on a stone and heat it intensely with charcoal until extremely red. Then immerse it in one sheng of vinegar (*Acetum*). Pour into a container. Seal with forty-nine layers of paper. Remove one layer each day until all are removed. Then apply a dosage the size of a millet grain to the eye.
*Bixiao Fang* main prescription for wind-red eyes persisting for a long time and Tai Chi:
A bronze gong with a diameter of less than one chi. Place rock salt powder (*Lapis Salis*) amounting to an apricot kernel, and oil amounting to half an egg, mixed with salt. Take a handful of willow branches (*Salix* sp.) as thick as chopsticks, bind one end tightly. Grind the oil mixture for three days until it resembles ink. Take prepared mugwort (*Artemisia argyi* leaf) the size of a chicken egg. Dig a small pit in the ground, place a stand below, position the mugwort, ignite fire... [Text incomplete/corrupted].
Another prescription for treating chronic wind-red eyes:
Take raw oil, raw pig lard (*Suis Adeps*), and lead subacetate (*Cerussa*) in equal parts. Mix and grind, then apply to the eyes. The redness will be completely eliminated within two days.
*Jiuji Fang* prescription for treating chronic wind-red eyes:
Coptis rhizome (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), one liang. Jujube fruits (*Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus*), two pieces, remove skin and pits, finely cut. Impressed salt (*Natrii Chloridum*), amount approximating two large soybeans.
The above three ingredients: Add half a sheng of well water (*Aqua Fontis*) to the aforementioned medicines and stir. Boil over slow fire until one-third is reduced. Filter through cotton cloth to extract the juice completely. Continue to boil the remaining liquid over slow fire... [Text truncated].
