The etiology of *Wei Tui* (flaccidity and atrophy) involves flaccid limbs that cannot be held or controlled, body pain, distension of muscles due to deficiency, laxity of bone joints, weakness in the waist and legs, and loss of sensation or awareness. This occurs because the skin and flesh are thin and weak, unable to withstand the empty winds of the four seasons, allowing wind pathogens to invade between the muscle layers (*Fen Rou*) and flow within the blood vessels, causing these symptoms. If left untreated for a long time, it may transform into *Feng Shui* (wind-water edema). (From Volume 1)
Prescription from *Qian Jin Fang* for treating *Wei Tui*, hemiplegia, aphasia, and inability to speak:
Almond (*Xing Ren*), three sheng. Remove double-kernel almonds and tips/skins. Wash and pound two sheng in a mortar until crushed and ground. Prepare like congee for Cold Food Festival. Extract eight sheng of juice. Decoct until reduced to four sheng. Taste with the mouth; if fragrant and smooth, it is cooked. If not fragrant, it is uncooked. Only thoroughly cooked is acceptable. Cool completely. Then add one sheng of good yeast (*Qu*). During steaming rice, take the reserved one sheng of almond meat, plus another four sheng, pound them, add sixteen sheng of water, decoct to obtain eight sheng. This is the first extraction. For the second steaming, take three sheng of almonds, grind to extract twelve sheng of juice, decoct to obtain six sheng. This is the second extraction. For the third steaming, follow the second method, adjusting based on the amount of almond juice, as the third extraction. If concerned about insufficient rice, use eight sheng of juice, decoct to four sheng, and repeat until cooked. One dan of rice requires three dou of almonds. The reason for sequential grinding is to prevent the juice from turning sour during simultaneous decoction. In winter, all can be decocted at once. Based on three dou of almonds, use sixteen dou of water, decoct to obtain eight dou and four sheng to soak the yeast, then divide into portions. After fermentation, seal for four days and seven nights, then open. Clarify and take the clear liquid, then press the lees. The lees can be dried and powdered, taken with wine. Highly effective. (Note by Shi Ruoshi: 'Dou' refers to wine, 'Fen' refers to one steaming cycle, 'Zheng' refers to steamed rice)
Another prescription:
Castor seed fat (*Bi Ma Zi Zhi*), one sheng. Wine, one sheng.
Place the above two ingredients in a bronze bowl, simmer in wine for one day until cooked. Consume. (Both from Volume 8)
Prescription from *Qian Jin Yi Fang* for treating wind-induced *Wei Tui*:
Cocklebur fruit (*Cang Er Zi*), five sheng (seedlings are also acceptable). Sheep peach (*Yang Tao*), two sheng, sliced. *Shuo Di* (likely *Datura metel* or similar), two sheng, sliced. Red adzuki bean (*Chi Xiao Dou*), each two sheng and half. Salt, two sheng.
Decoct the above five ingredients in two dan five dou of water, reduce to five dou. Adjust temperature to suitable warmth. Immerse the affected foot in the liquid, deep up to the *Jue Gu* (absolute bone/ankle area) but not exceeding it. Remove after the time it takes to cook two dou of rice. Avoid wind and cold. Sweat will emerge from the head. (From Volume 8)
