Apply crushed *Napus* (Rapeseed) ground with rice vinegar to the painful area. Wrap the lower back pain site with yellow dog skin; relief occurs once warmth penetrates. Another method: Apply a waist plaster made by decocting fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* (one jin, extracting four liang of natural juice) and *Colla Corii Asini* (one liang) into a paste. Spread on thick paper and apply to the Yao Yan (kidney region); it is very effective. Another method: Use *Chrysanthemi Flos*, *Genkwa Flos*, and *Ayerbiae Radix* (two sheng each). Moisten with vinegar, divide into two doses, place in two cloth bags, and steam for the time it takes to cook one dou of rice. When the temperature is suitable, iron the painful area through clothing; replace when cool. The pain will heal after ironing. Another method: Take a large bowl of black soybeans (another version uses six sheng of soybeans), moisten with water, stir-fry until hot, wrap in multiple layers of clothing, and iron the painful area until warmth penetrates; replace when cool.
Crush raw *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata* (three pieces) thoroughly, add a little salt water, spread on paper or silk, and apply to the painful area; pain stops shortly. If there is blood stasis in the waist with unbearable pain, grind *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (Guixin) into powder, mix with vinegar, and apply to the painful area.
Mix mustard seed powder with wine and apply externally; immediate effect.
Grind *Santalum Album* (White Sandalwood) with water and apply to the affected area.
Mix *Evodiae Fructus* (one teacup amount, powdered) with yellow wine (one cup), stir-fry until hot, spread on oil paper, and apply to the affected area; bind with cloth. Re-heat and re-apply if it cools down.
*Moschus* (Guo Mu Xiang), *Zanthoxyli Pericarpium* (Zhen Chuan Jiao), *Foeniculi Fructus* (Da Hui Xiang, stir-fried), *Psoraleae Fructus* (Gu Zhi), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Sheng Ma) (each one liang), *Aconiti Carminativi Radix* (Chuan Fu Zi) (five qian), *Artemisiae Argyi Folium* (Qi Ai) (four qian), *Cinnamomi Cortex* (Shang Rou Gui), *Toosendan Fructus* (Chuan Lian Zi) (each one liang). First, soften mugwort by rubbing; then powder all other herbs and mix evenly. Wrap the mixture in silk and apply tightly against the skin; this is miraculous.
Leaves of *Lunaria biennis* (Luo Qun Dai Ye) (leaves over two chi long, flower stalks two to three chi long, flowers hanging like dragon claws, also known as Dragon Claw Vegetable, slightly larger, red or white color), *Phyllostachys nigra* bark (Sha Pi Shu), *Sophora japonica* bark (Huai Pi Shu) (equal parts). Decoct with water for hot washing. Pound the dregs, heat them, and replace whenever they cool; do this continuously day and night. For someone with a waist injury from falling or twisting, where tendons have contracted into a knot for many years without healing, applying and washing with this remedy relaxes the tendons, restoring normalcy after several times. This formula is also called Sheng Jun San. First, crush green onion whites, heat them, and rub the entire painful area. Then, apply *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Raw Da Huang) powder mixed with ginger juice, cover with coarse paper, change once a day, and drink good wine as much as possible.
