The book *Waike Shifa* (Ten Methods of Surgery) was written by me when I returned to Mount Putuo. Having been born and raised at Mount Putuo in Tiandu, I have lived there for fifty-three years and practiced medicine for thirty years. I subsequently authored the book *Yixue Xinwu* (Medical Insights), which detailed internal medicine conditions and was printed for public distribution, yet it omitted surgery. In the winter of the Renzi year, I returned to Mount Putuo for cultivation. Coincidentally, Emperor Kangxi generously allocated treasury funds to repair our Bodhisattva's palace. The monks of the temple before and after, along with those assigned tasks, numbered no less than several thousand. Among them were patients with various ailments; I treated them all, and they recovered completely. There were also cases of back carbuncle (back abscess), widespread sores, scabies, and tinea; applying ointments and powders yielded results within half a month. Reflecting on this, I realized that while in Tiandu, I had only written about internal medicine and neglected surgery, which was a temporary omission. Thus, I gathered my spirit and mind, contemplated the essentials of surgery, summarized them into ten methods, and found that the way of treatment seemed comprehensive. The language is concise yet exhaustive, the prescriptions simple yet effective. Offering this to the world, it may provide some minor benefit. It is anticipated that the book *Shifa* will run parallel with *Yixue Xinwu* throughout the universe.

Internal resolution refers to the method of using medication to dissipate swelling and toxins at their initial stage. For any condition involving yongju (skin abscesses), fabei (acute suppurative disease of the back), duikou ding (carbuncle located at the center of the nape), or dingdu (acute infection with rapid onset and high danger), the initial stage presents with aversion to cold and high fever, resembling shanghan (exogenous febrile diseases), but with pain localized to one area and normal appetite, indicating the accumulation of pus. At the very beginning, the pus has not yet formed; it is merely a disorder of qi and blood, reversing within the muscle tissues. Externally apply Yuanzhi Gao (Polygala Ointment) or paste Pujiu Wanquan Gao (Universal Salvation Ointment). Internally administer Yinhua Gancao Tang (Honeysuckle and Licorice Decoction), which dissipates the swelling immediately. If it is a dingchuang (carbuncle), it should be pricked open urgently. Alternatively, moxa can be applied to the swollen area, Chan Yu Bing (Toad Venom Cake) applied topically, Wanquan Gao pasted over it, and Juhua Gancao Tang (Chrysanthemum and Licorice Decoction) taken internally, leading to immediate subsidence. Chrysanthemum, including roots and leaves, is a miraculous herb for treating dingchuang. Some cases may arise complicated by wind-cold; in such instances, Xiongzhi Xiangsu San (Ligusticum, Chrysanthemum, Aromatic Perilla Powder) should first be used to disperse the pathogen, followed by the administration of herbs such as chrysanthemum and honeysuckle, achieving internal resolution. Early intervention is necessary; do not delay.
