Warts, also known as "Ku Jin Jian" (Withered Tendon Arrow), occur when the Hand Taiyang channel is deficient (according to Xue Ji). Additionally, warts belong to the Wind-Blood Dryness of the Liver and Gallbladder Shaoyang channels, or are caused by pathogenic factors invading the Liver. Generally, this is due to Liver Heat drying up body fluids, and Kidney Qi failing to nourish, resulting in the loss of essence and contraction of tendons. It is advisable to use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) to nourish Kidney Water to generate Liver Blood for the best effect. If spider silk wrapped around a mantis is used for corrosion, or if moxibustion with mugwort is applied, mild cases may heal, but severe cases will likely result in misdiagnosis or harm. This condition resembles scrofula (lymph node tuberculosis). Some are as large as soybeans or as small as millet seeds, pulling out like threads; some crumble upon touch like broken threads, lengthening when pulled and shrinking when released; some appear as white spots on the hairline behind the ears; some initially resemble red mulberries, becoming mushroom-like after applying various topical medicines; some become tumor-sized after using corrosive agents; some present as a lump inside the abdomen that causes pain upon pressure, congealing into a "blood turtle"; after treatment, a lump about one cun long, shaped like a turtle, forms on the back of the hand; some have bean-sized lumps on limbs, very numerous; some appear externally like mud loaches giving birth; some have small granules around the anus resembling mouse milk, varying in size; some women suffer from amenorrhea due to this condition. There are many such variations. Only medicines such as Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), and Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) can benefit and nourish Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi), leading to complete recovery over time.
Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) (both seen in Volume 1), Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) (both seen in the Scrofula Section).
These are all minor conditions and should not be confused with major toxins, hence they are classified separately.
Nameless Swelling and Toxicity arises wherever it occurs, without following acupoint sequences, making it unnameable. It is caused by Wind Pathogens and Cold-Heat lodging in the meridians. However, if caused by internal Wind Pathogens, there is no head or root; if caused by the struggle between Qi and Blood, there is a head and root; if formed by Wind-Cold, the swelling is hard and white; if formed by Wind-Heat toxicity, the swelling is red. Treatment methods: for exterior syndromes, use dispersing methods; for interior syndromes, use purgative methods; externally, apply compresses and other medicines. This generally follows the principles of ulcer treatment in Volume 1, and reference is advised. Moxibustion at Quchi (LI11) is very effective. (Acupoint seen in Volume 1 Moxibustion Section).
Loulu Tang (Rhapontic Rhizome Decoction) treats carbuncles, sores, and furuncles. It applies regardless of whether the syndrome is Yin or Yang at the initial stage, or after initial ulceration where redness and swelling have not fully subsided, as well as for wet, rotting scabies and other toxicities.
Ingredients: Loulu (Rhapontici Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Zihua Diding (Violae Herba, 1 qian), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica, 1 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 qian), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum, 1 qian), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 1 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 3 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian), Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Recens, 0.4 qian).

On the second day, use Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) 2 qian, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 0.6 qian, take warm. On the third day, use Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 1 qian, take warm. If redness and swelling have not subsided, repeat the third-day prescription two or three times; recovery is assured. In this formula, if sweating is not desired, reduce Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and take warm. If stools are loose or purging is not desired, reduce Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), or omit it. Administer before or after meals depending on the location of the disease.
For inguinal abscess (Bian Du), if laxatives damage healthy Qi and the skin is thick without breaking, taking this formula once induces sweating, allowing it to break without need for lancet puncture.
Feiteng Shenjun Gao (Flying Steed Divine Horse Ointment) treats carbuncles, sores, swelling, toxicity, scrofula, and rat sores.
Ingredients: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, de-jointed, pure use, 1 jin), Xingren (Pruni Armeniaci Semen, soaked, skin and tip removed, ground in mortar to paste, mixed with water, stirred, clarified, sediment discarded), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, de-rhizome, 4 liang), Digupi (Phellodendri Cortex, de-bark, 4 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang), Dengcao (Junci Medullae, a large handful), Heiqian (Lead, one piece), Mugiezi Rou (Semen Momordicae, 14 pieces), Toufa (Human Hair, a large ball, washed clean).
Place together in a large copper pot, add two buckets of water, decoct over charcoal fire until reduced by half to extract juice. Decoct dregs twice more. Filter cleanly through silk cloth, combine juices. Re-add Dengcao (Junci Medullae), Toufa (Human Hair), and Heiqian (Lead) to the juice, decoct until ointment forms. Remove these three ingredients, decoct further until thick, store in jar. Smells sweet, preserves well. Take 3 qian per dose, mix with hot wine. Drink until intoxicated. Cover and sleep to sweat, avoid wind for one day. Eat pig trotters the next day to nourish.
This formula is miraculous when taken at the initial stage or just before ulceration.
Junmen Lixiao San (Military Commander's Instant Effect Powder) treats carbuncles, sores, various toxicities, duikou (opposite mouth) abscesses, and fugu guju (bone-abscess attached to bone).
