Tai Jing Dan Du Mian (Neonatal Startle and Erysipelas of the Face): In newborn infants, rashes resembling waterpox appear on the face with slightly red bases. The rashes intermittently appear and disappear, spreading to the neck and nape, subsequently developing into Chi You Dan (Red Wandering Erysipelas).
[Note] This condition arises from maternal fright transmitted to the fetus. Within the first year after birth, the infant suddenly presents with red halos around the eyelids, a cyan-dark complexion, irritability, fever, and nocturnal crying, or a face red as rouge. This indicates latent heat within dispersing to the face, resembling waterpox with slightly red bases, appearing and disappearing intermittently, extending to the neck and nape, and subsequently developing into erysipelas. Initially, use Si Sheng San (Four Holy Powder) to wash the eyes; the judgment of favorable/unfavorable appearance and treatment methods are identical to those for Chi You Dan. If the condition spreads to the chest and breasts, accompanied by phlegm, wheezing, and convulsions, this indicates fire-toxin attacking inward, risking transformation into Jing Feng (Startle Wind); it is appropriate to administer Bai Jie San (Hundred Resolutions Powder) and Wu He Tang (Five Harmonies Decoction) for rescue.
Si Sheng San (Four Holy Powder)
Mu Zei (Equiseti Herba), Qin Pi (Fraxini Cortex), Hong Zao Zi (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each 5 qian)
Grind together into coarse powder. For each dose, take 2 qian, add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, remove dregs, and frequently wash both eyes.
[Fang Ge - Formula Verse] Si Sheng San treats heat-toxin invasion, composed of Mu Zei, Qin Pi, Zao, and Deng Xin Cao; adding Huang Lian ground into coarse powder, decoct soup, remove dregs, and wash eyes frequently.
Bai Jie San (Hundred Resolutions Powder)
Gan Ge (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (2 liang 5 qian), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) (each 2 liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw) (1 liang 5 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (1 liang), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, processed with honey) (7 qian 5 fen), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, selected thin slices, coarse bark scraped off) (2 qian 5 fen)
Grind together into coarse powder. For each dose, take 2 qian, add one zhong of water, two slices of fresh ginger, and one stalk of green onion, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, and take warm at any time.
[Fang Ge - Formula Verse] Bai Jie treats internal attack of startle wind and erysipelas, decocting and taking prevents transformation into startle wind; composed of Gan Ge, Ma Huang, Huang Qin, Rou Gui, Gan Cao, Sheng Ma, Chi Shao, along with fresh ginger and green onion.
Wu He Tang (Five Harmonies Decoction)
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, stir-baked with bran), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, processed with honey) (each 7 qian 5 fen), Chi Fu Ling (Poria cum Ligno Rubrum), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine) (each 5 qian)
Grind together into coarse powder. For each dose, take 2 qian, add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, and take at any time.
[Fang Ge - Formula Verse] Wu He contains Gan Cao and Dang Gui, followed by Chi Ling, Zhi Ke, and Da Huang; when startle erysipelas spreads to the breast and adds convulsions, decocting and taking immediately pushes away fire-toxin.
