Mian You Feng (Facial Wind) is formed by the combination of dryness-heat and dampness. Its symptoms present as swelling of the face and eyes, itching sensation resembling insects crawling on the skin, appearance of white scales with extreme pruritus, and upon scratching, exudation of yellow serous fluid or blood accompanied by pain.
[Note] This condition occurs on the face. Initially, there is swelling of the face and eyes, itching as if insects are crawling, dry skin, and frequent occurrence of white scales. Subsequently, the itching becomes severe. Upon scratching, if damp-heat is predominant, yellow fluid exudes; if wind-dryness is predominant, blood exudes, causing unbearable pain. This arises from chronic blood dryness combined with excessive consumption of spicy and rich foods, leading to damp-heat in the Yangming Stomach Meridian being invaded by wind pathogen. For severe itching, Xiaofeng San (Eliminate Wind Powder) is indicated; for severe pain, Huanglian Jiedu Yin (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification) is indicated. Externally, Mofeng Gao (Wind-Rubbing Ointment) should be applied slowly for effect.

Sai (Cheek) conditions originate from Stomach Heat. Initially, there is swelling and pain, alternating chills and fever. If high swelling and redness occur, it is due to wind-heat in the Stomach Meridian; if flat swelling and pale color occur, it originates from damp-heat in the Stomach Meridian.
[Note] This condition is also known as Zifa (Beard Hair Disease) or Hansai Chuang (Cheek-Holding Sore). It occurs in the muscles of both cheeks, not touching the bone, regardless of left or right side, always originating from Yangming Stomach Heat. Initially, there is swelling and pain with alternating chills and fever. If high swelling, redness, and burning heat are present, it is caused by wind-heat in the Stomach Meridian; if flat swelling and pale, dull color are present, it is generated by damp-heat in the Stomach Meridian. Initially, Chaihu Gegen Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Decoction) should be used to release the exterior. If thirst and constipation are present, Sixun Qingliang Yin (Four-Obedient Cooling Drink) should be used to clear the interior. If exterior and interior syndromes are resolved but swelling and pain persist, suppuration will inevitably occur; Tuoli Xiaodu San (Interior-Supporting Detoxification Powder) should be used to support the interior and expel toxins. When pus is ripe, puncture it. For those with weak constitution, gentle tonification is appropriate. Other treatment methods refer to the Carbuncle and Ulcer sections. In the initial stage of this condition, excessive use of cold medicines may cause toxic pathogens to attack the throat, which is dangerous.
