[Teeth] Small worms grow inside the teeth. This is caused by the condensation of blood stasis, dampness, wind, and fire in the Stomach Meridian. Bad breath is solely due to excessive Stomach Fire, leading to the rotting of tooth roots and the discharge of pus and blood.
[Note] This syndrome involves worms growing inside the teeth, resulting from the condensation of blood stasis, dampness, wind, and fire in the Stomach Meridian. The tooth roots swell, ache, and rot, frequently discharging pus and blood. If bad breath is severe, it indicates extreme Stomach Fire attacking upward. It is advisable to take Yu Chi San (Jade Pool Powder) externally prepared with one bundle of Setaria italica (Foxtail Millet) stalks with heads attached and thirty slices of bitter bottle gourd (Bitter Gourd). Cut the millet stalks into two-cun lengths, wrap them in gourd leaves to make five packets, each one cun wide and five fen thick. Soak them in three-year-old aged vinegar. At noon, take two packets, heat them over a fire, and apply them hot to the outside of the teeth in the mouth. Replace them when they cool. Place the used packets in water, unwrap, and observe: small worms about three fen long will appear. Older worms are yellow, newer ones are white. The efficacy is miraculous.
Yu Chi San (Jade Pool Powder)
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex), Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Ben Cao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Huai Hua (Sophorae Flos) (each 1 qian).
Add three slices of fresh ginger and thirty black soybeans. Decoct in water, strain, and hold the warm liquid in the mouth for rinsing; spit it out if it cools. If decocted and taken internally, the effect is even better.
[Prescription Song] Yu Chi San disperses wind and treats dental caries; holding or swallowing is excellent for gum bleeding, pus, and root rot. Contains Dang Gui, Bai Zhi, Sheng Ma, Fang Feng, Gan Cao, Di Gu Pi, Chuan Xiong, Xi Xin, Ginger, Black Soybean, and Huai Hua.
[Dental Caries] Wind-heat pathogenic factors invade the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, causing gingival swelling, pain, and discharge of foul-smelling pus. Pain worsens upon exposure to wind, and over time, the gums recede exposing the teeth. A small amount of horse's hoof (Ma Bai Xuan Ti) inserted into the lesion is effective.
[Note] This syndrome results from wind-heat invading the Hand-Yangming and Foot-Yangming meridians. Initially, the gums swell and hurt; pain intensifies with wind exposure, often accompanied by a distorted mouth and sucking-in breath posture. Gum tissue develops necrotic holes discharging foul pus. Long-term, the gums recede exposing teeth. Initially, treat internally with Qing Wei Tang (Clear the Stomach Decoction) plus Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix). Externally, use a small amount of horse's hoof wrapped in cotton and inserted into the pus hole; this is very effective.

[Purple Tongue Swelling] Belongs to excessive fire in the Heart Meridian. Excessive heat causes blood stagnation, resulting in tongue swelling, hardness, and pain. When the tongue swells to fill the mouth, acupuncture is indicated. Purple blood color indicates severe condition; red blood color indicates mild condition.
[Note] This syndrome is caused by excessive fire in the Heart Meridian and blood stagnation, leading to tongue swelling filling the mouth, which is hard and painful. Use a needle attached to the tip of a chopstick, exposing the tip slightly. Prick the tongue dozens of times to induce bleeding. Red blood indicates a mild case; purple blood indicates a severe case. Subsequently, rinse the mouth with warm water, apply Bing Peng San (Ice and Borax Powder) topically, and take Liang Ge San (Cool the Diaphragm Decoction) internally, excluding Po Xiao (Mirabilite) and Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), adding Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus) and Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica), and doubling the dosage of Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus). The effect is excellent.
