Qi Chuang (Lacquer Dermatitis) originates from a strange cause; some individuals contract the pathogen while others do not. The common saying that "trees give birth to humans" is incorrect. However, lacquer is a pungent, hot, fire-like, and toxic substance. If a person's skin pores and interstices are not dense enough, they will be affected by its toxicity. It initially manifests as itching; after scratching, lesions resembling wind-rashes appear on the skin, spreading across the limbs. The skin may break down, weep fluid, and become painful. In severe cases, alternating chills and fever occur. It is advisable to apply Sanbai San (Three Whites Powder) mixed with raw Chinese chive juice topically, and internally administer Huaban Jiedu Tang (Spot-Resolving Detoxifying Decoction). One should avoid bathing in hot water and maintain a bland diet; otherwise, it may transform into stubborn wind-rashes, tinea, or leprosy-like conditions, often recurring.
Sanbai San (Three Whites Powder)
Sanbai San contains Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Lead Carbonate (Hangfen), and Calomel (Qingfen), used in equal measure.
It must be mixed with raw Chinese chive juice for application; applying it to lacquer dermatitis brings immediate relief.
Hangfen (Lead Carbonate) (1 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (3 qian), Qingfen (Calomel) (5 qian).
Grind each into powder separately. Mix with Chinese chive juice for topical application, covered with paper. If chive juice is unavailable, mix with cool water for application.
Huaban Jiedu Tang (See section on Huo Dan / Erysipelas)
Bamboo or wood splinters are external injuries, varying in hardness and depth. For soft and superficial ones, use a needle tip to expose the splinter shape and extract it to cure. For hard and deep ones difficult to remove, crush the earthworm (Lougu) and apply it to the splinter for approximately one shichen (two hours); the splinter will naturally extrude. Remove it to cure.
Huarui Shi San (Flower Manganese Stone Powder) (See section on Die Pu / Traumatic Injuries).
For bamboo or wood splinter injuries causing swelling, pain, and pus discharge, clean with scallion decoction first, then sprinkle this powder.
Cuo Fei (Prickly Heat/Miliaria) presents densely like scattered millet grains, sharp like thorns, with intense itching and pain, feeling like grass needles all over the body. This is caused by internal heat combined with wind exposure, leading to the closure of hair follicles and pores. It is suitable to internally administer Xiaofeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder) and wash externally with Kushen Tang (Sophora Root Decoction). In severe cases where skin breaks down and forms clustered sores, apply Ehuang San (Goose Yellow Powder) using soft silk cloth to dab the medication onto the affected area.
Kushen Tang
Kushen Tang uses Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), boiled in river water and rubbed onto the affected area.
Add pig bile just before washing to naturally eliminate various itches.
Treats Cuo Fei sores causing itching, pain upon scratching, restlessness as if sitting on chaff, and difficulty sleeping.
Use 4 liang of Kushen (Sophora Flavescens Root), 2 liang of Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), and 5 bowls of river water. Boil together several times, add 2 more bowls of water, cover, and let stand for a moment. Just before washing, add 4-5 gallbladders from a male pig and rinse the affected area. Cure can be expected in two or three applications. After healing, avoid wind and refrain from eating "fa wu" (stimulating foods that trigger disease).
Ehuang San (Goose Yellow Powder)
Ehuang San contains true mung bean powder, Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Talcum (Huashi), and Calomel (Qingfen), used in equal proportions.
Grind these four ingredients into fine powder to stop pain and dry the lesion, fulfilling my intention.
Mung Bean Powder (1 liang), Huashi (Talcum) (5 qian), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (3 qian), Qingfen (Calomel) (2 qian).
Grind the above into fine powder. Dab onto the affected area using soft silk cloth to stop pain and promote drying.
