Nao Lou (Brain Dripping), also known as Bi Yuan (Nasal Sinusitis), is generally caused by the condensation of Wind-Cold pathogenic factors in the Naohu (entry point at the back of the head into the hairline) and their steaming interaction with Damp-Heat in the Taiyang (Solar) meridian. The clinical manifestation involves the flow of turbid nasal discharge or yellow fluid from the nose, dripping drop by drop, remaining perpetually moist without drying. Prolonged occurrence leads to persistent dizziness and vertigo due to deficiency. The treatment principle prioritizes Huoxiang Tang (Agastache Decoction) as the main formula, adjusted with Tianma Bingzi (Gastrodia Biscuit), which can lead to gradual recovery. If the deficiency-induced vertigo persists for a long time, Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Reinforcing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) should be taken alternately internally to nourish the source of transformation and achieve cure.
Huoxiang Tang (Agastache Decoction) - Entrusted Prescription
The originally miraculous Huoxiang Tang, when combined with Pig Gallbladder Juice, yields immeasurable efficacy.
It is highly suitable for treating Bi Yuan (Nasal Sinusitis) and Nao Lou (Brain Dripping); merely three doses will permanently eliminate the affliction.
Indicated for Bi Yuan (Nasal Sinusitis) causing prolonged flow of yellow water and turbid discharge, leading to persistent vertigo in the Naohu region.
Use five qian (approx. 18.75g) of Huoxiang (Patchouli Herba) including stems and leaves, decocted in one bowl of water until reduced to seven-tenths volume. Mix in one gallbladder juice from a male pig. Administer orally in one dose after meals; for severe cases, no more than three doses are needed. If the bitter taste makes this preparation difficult to ingest, grind Huoxiang into powder (one liang, approx. 37.5g) and boil the male pig's gallbladder juice into a thick paste to form pills. Take two qian per dose, washed down with plain boiled water after meals, which is also effective.
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Reinforcing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) (See Ulcer Section)
Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) (Ingredients see Lung Abscess Section, Shenqi Wan)
Tianma Bingzi (Gastrodia Biscuit) (See Headache Section)
Poshang Feng (Traumatic Tetanus) occurs when skin and flesh are damaged and subsequently invaded by external Wind pathogens entering the meridians, gradually transmitting inward. Symptoms include alternating chills and fever, trismus (lockjaw) with teeth grinding, opisthotonos (body arched backward like a bow), and salivation. If the pathogen enters the Yin level, the body becomes cool with spontaneous sweating, and the wound site flattens and sinks back to its original state, indicating that the toxin has retreated inward. At this stage, Wanling Dan (Ten Thousand Spirits Pill) should be used to induce sweating, allowing the Wind pathogen to exit via the exterior, followed by topical application of Yuzhen San (True Jade Powder) to the affected area until suppuration occurs, which signifies effectiveness. If symptoms persist after sweating, the wound does not elevate, and the patient experiences fluctuating consciousness (alternating between waking and coma), persistent trismus, and aphonia, it indicates a terminal prognosis.
Yuzhen San (True Jade Powder)
Yuzhen San contains Nanxing (Arisaema Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), and other potent herbs.
Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) is combined with Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Praeparata) to effectively treat traumatic tetanus.
Indicated for traumatic tetanus presenting with trismus, opisthotonos, and in severe cases, teeth grinding and tongue retraction.
Ingredients: Nanxing (Arisaema Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Praeparata) (equal parts).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with one cup of hot wine, and apply topically to the wound. For cases with severe trismus and opisthotonos, take three qian mixed with hot urine from a healthy child; even if blood stasis exists internally, it will heal. For patients who appear comatose but have warmth in the heart and abdomen, administering two consecutive doses can preserve life. For dog bites from rabid dogs, wash the wound with saliva (rinsing water) and apply to the wound, which is also effective.
Wanling Dan (Ten Thousand Spirits Pill) (See Swelling/Ulcer Section)
Indicated for traumatic tetanus with trismus, opisthotonos, and intermittent consciousness.
Zhenfeng San (Wind-Calming Powder)
Zhenfeng San uses Biao Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-Hide Gelatin) and Fan (Alumen), along with Hangfen (Stamen Tiliae) and Zhusha (Cinnabar).
Take two qian per dose, mixed with hot wine; traumatic tetanus symptoms will naturally subside.
Indicated for traumatic tetanus where other medications fail and the condition is critical; this formula is guaranteed to be effective.
Ingredients: Biao Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, cut into segments, lightly roasted), Hangfen (Stamen Tiliae, roasted until yellow), Zao Fan (Chalcanthite, one liang each, fried until red), Zhusha (Cinnabar, three qian, separately ground).
Grind into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with clear hot wine. For various animal wind injuries (pig, sheep, etc.) causing fainting and unconsciousness, take three qian per dose; two doses will result in complete recovery and prevent recurrence. Additionally, moxibustion on the wound site for seven moxa cones is recommended; sensation of pain upon application is an auspicious sign.
