Yidu (Residual Toxin) refers to the residual toxin inherited from the parents' essence and blood while the infant is in the womb. Therefore, after birth, if bathed with hot water or dressed in clothes that have been baked or fumigated, external heat may stir up internal toxins, causing muscle rot and ulceration, leading to restless crying. Treatment should be initiated early. Internally, administer Tufuling Decoction (Smilax Glabra Decoction) mixed with 4-5 fen of fine powder of Renzhonghuang (Human Excrement Yellow), taken several times a day. For external ulcers, apply dry powder of honey-fried Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark). Alternatively, spread Huashi (Talcum) and Lvdoufen (Mung Bean Powder) on the mat for the infant to lie on; this method can save three or four out of ten cases. If the toxin spreads throughout the body, causing day-and-night crying and refusal to nurse or drink, it indicates excessive toxin and deficient healthy qi, rendering it incurable.
(Also known as Laidafeng [Great Leprosy], commonly called Dama Feng [Big Leprosy].)
Lifeng (Leprosy) is caused by toxic wind pathogens. The Spleen governs muscles, and the Lung governs skin and hair. When muscles are affected by damp-heat, qi becomes turbid and blood becomes deficient. Combined with external exposure to fierce and violent cold-wind pathogens, this leads over time to curling and contracture of the limbs and corruption of muscles. When heat-toxin is excessive, the face appears oily; prolonged heat generates worms. Worm erosion of the five zang organs causes five types of physical damage: erosion of the Liver causes eyebrow loss; erosion of the Lung causes nasal collapse; erosion of the Heart causes hoarseness; erosion of the Spleen causes perforation of the soles and swelling of the knees; erosion of the Kidney causes tinnitus like cicada chirping, or itching and pain like needle pricks; erosion of the body causes skin itching like insects crawling. In treatment, the patient must immediately abstain from alcohol and sexual activity, maintain a calm and open mind, and strictly avoid all foods that trigger wind or agitate qi, such as sauces, salt, pepper, vinegar, meat, fried/grilled foods, and extreme cold or hot substances. Only light rice, plain congee, and boiled seasonal vegetables should be consumed. The prescription uses one snake the size of a wine cup, cut open with a bamboo knife to remove impurities, and sliced into inch-long segments. Place a tile upside down over charcoal fire, stand the snake segments vertically on the tile. Segments that fall off are non-toxic and should be discarded; those that remain standing are toxic. Process these by roasting until "preserving nature" (charred but retaining efficacy) and grind into powder. (Note: Snakes are spiritual creatures and should not be killed wantonly. It is recommended to use Baihua She [Bungarus multicinctus] strips, soaked in wine, roasted, and ground. Although less potent than live snakes, its ability to penetrate and search out wind is excellent. If one course is ineffective, another may be tried. It is said Baihua She is a grass snake.) This is also effective for long-standing ulcers that are severely rotten. Subsequently, continuously administer Yilao Qufeng Wan (Yilao Wind-Expelling Pill) and Dongpo Sishen Dan (Dongpo Four-God Elixir) without interruption. However, this condition requires strict abstinence from sexual desire and prohibition of spicy and "fa-wu" (stimulating/allergic) foods. Even after recovery, one must observe these restrictions for over a year; otherwise, relapse will be incurable.
1. For Leprosy presenting with purple nodules on the face, the treatment focuses on the facial ulcers.
