Deficiency and excess of Qi must be balanced. What is termed "Qi Excess" is not true excess, but rather a deficiency of Righteous Qi (Zheng Qi) accompanied by an abundance of Pathogenic Qi (Xie Qi). The treatment method should employ herbs that tonify the Righteous Qi: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 1 qian), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, 1 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, 1 qian), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, 3 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Extending this principle, treating Qi disorders is not limited to a single approach: For Qi Sinking (prolapse of middle Qi), Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang may be used; for Qi Decline (deficiency of primal Qi), Liu Jun Zi Tang can be selected; for Cold Qi, Ren Shen and Bai Zhu are used exclusively... In summary, Qi deficiency manifests as emaciation and weakness, while Qi excess manifests as robustness and strength. For deficiency syndromes, use the aforementioned formula; for excess syndromes, use another formula: Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, 0.5 qian), Bai Zhu (1 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 0.5 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian), Bai Shao (2 qian), Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus, 10 pieces), Chai Hu (1 qian), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 1 qian), Gan Cao (1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
When Blood fails to remain within the vessels, it may bleed upwards, downwards, or from various pores on the limbs. Blood circulates through the meridians, distributing externally to the skin and hair, and internally nourishing the Zang-Fu organs. If internal circulation becomes disordered, leading to reckless bleeding, symptoms such as hematochezia or hematuria may occur. The formula consists of: Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), Bai Shao (3 qian), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber, 3 qian), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 5 qian), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix, 5 qian), Qian Cao Gen (Rubiae Cordifoliae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian)... This formula is a modification of Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), with the brilliance lying in the use of Qian Cao Gen to guide Blood back into the vessels. After taking one or two doses, administer Liu Wei Di Huang Tang (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to tonify the Kidney to nourish Liver Wood.
Liu Wei Di Huang Tang composition: Shu Di Huang (5 qian), Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus, 5 qian), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 2 qian), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 2 qian), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 1 qian). This formula is most suitable for blood disorders; long-term use for three years can prevent hemoptysis.
If a person suffers from incessant coughing and incessant vomiting and diarrhea, this indicates injury to the Lung and Spleen. People generally believe that coughing should be treated by addressing the Lung, and vomiting/diarrhea by addressing the Spleen. However, they fail to realize that these conditions are interconnected... The formula includes: Ren Shen (1 qian), Mai Dong (2 qian), Fu Ling (2 qian), Chai Hu (1 qian), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen, 1 qian), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 0.5 qian), Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen, ...). These are herbs for treating the Lung and Spleen; when combined, they can cure both the cough and the vomiting/diarrhea simultaneously. This is referred to as "one formula serving two purposes."
