This condition manifests as an inability to walk. People attribute it to a deficiency of Kidney Water (Shen Shui, 肾水), but this is not the sole cause; rather, it stems from Qi (Vital Energy, 气) deficiency failing to facilitate movement. The prescription utilizes Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) supplemented with Niuxi (Achyranthes Root, 牛膝) [3 qian], Shihu (Dendrobium Stem, 石斛) [5 qian], Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 黄芪) [1 liang], and Renshen (Ginseng Root, 人参) [3 qian], decocted in water and taken orally.
The hands and feet are the domains governed by the Liver Meridian. However, people mistakenly attribute the symptoms to Heat in the Spleen Meridian, failing to realize that dispersing the stagnation of Liver Wood (Gan Mu, 肝木) will naturally alleviate the pain in the hands and feet. The prescription utilizes Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) modified with Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, 栀子) [3 qian], Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 半夏) [2 qian], and Baijiezi (White Mustard Seed, 白芥子) [2 qian], decocted in water and taken orally. After two doses, the pain disappears. This is because when Liver Wood acts maliciously, the Spleen Earth dare not withstand its force; Qi scatters into the four limbs, condenses, and fails to extend, thus causing pain. Now, by pacifying the Liver...
Tendon and bone traction and stiffness, restlessness in sitting and lying, and pain that migrates frequently and unpredictably indicate that Phlegm-Fluids (Tan Xian, 痰涎) have lodged above and below the Heart Diaphragm, transforming into Phlegm (Tan, 痰). This may sometimes cause headache, especially at night...
The combination of Wind-Cold-Dampness pathogens creates disease, lodging between the skin and muscles, resulting either in pain or numbness. Apply Niu Pi Jiao (Ox Hide Glue, 牛皮胶) [2 liang] and Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome, 天南星) [5 qian, ground], boiled together with Sheng Jiang Zhi (Fresh Ginger Juice, 生姜汁) to form a paste for topical application. Subsequently, iron the area with hot shoe soles. Adding powders of Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Rhizome, 羌活), Ru Xiang (Frankincense, 乳香), and Mo Yao (Myrrh, 没药) yields even better results.
Pain in the hands, feet, heart, and abdomen... widespread pain throughout the body: how should this be treated? Focus primarily on treating the Liver. Once Liver Qi (Gan Qi, 肝气) flows freely, all pains will naturally heal. The formula consists of Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root, 柴胡) [1 qian], Chen Pi (Citrus Peel, 陈皮) [1 qian], Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, 栀子) [1 qian], Bai Shao (White Peony Root, 白芍) [5 qian], Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed, 薏苡仁) [5 qian], Fu Ling (Poria, 茯苓) [5 qian], and Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 当归)... This formula is a variation of Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder); it soothes the Liver while dispelling Dampness and clearing Heat. By treating one meridian, efficacy is achieved across all meridians.
This arises from Qi deficiency compounded by invasion of Cold-Dampness. If left untreated, severe Stroke (Zhong Feng, 中风) will inevitably occur after three years. The prescription uses: Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 白术) [5 qian], Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 黄芪) [5 qian], Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, 防风) [5 fen], Chen Pi (Citrus Peel, 陈皮) [5 fen], Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig, 桂枝) [5 fen], and Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 甘草) [1 liang], decocted in water and taken orally. Numbness in all ten fingers accompanied by pallor of the face and eyes also indicates Qi deficiency. Use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) augmented with Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, 木香), Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber, 麦冬), Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome, 香附), Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Rhizome, 羌活), Wu Yao (Lindera Root, 乌药), and Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, 防风)...
