Swelling and pain on the exterior of the throat and neck are caused by wind-heat toxic factors invading the meridians, leading to stagnation in the Lung and Spleen, with Qi failing to circulate freely. Wind-toxicity attacks upward to the throat, where it knots and binds.
For treating throat obstruction and swelling and pain in the neck and jaw, this formula is suitable:
Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 1 liang), Loulu (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae, 0.5 liang), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae, 3 fen, sliced), Chishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra, 3 fen), Sanggen Baipi (Cortex Morus Radicis, 3 fen, sliced), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 1 liang).
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted with one zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
Another formula:
