During pregnancy, the mother's constitution is deficient and susceptible to wind pathogens, which damage the meridians and collaterals of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel. Subsequently, if exposed to a combination of wind and cold pathogens, an attack manifests as trismus (lockjaw) and stiffness of the back. This condition is termed "Jing" (Spasm). Its clinical presentation includes chest oppression and discomfort.
For treating Spasm due to Wind-Stroke during pregnancy, characterized by trismus, mental confusion with inability to speak, body stiffness, and occasional opisthotonos (backward arching of the body), use Qianghuo San (Notopterygium Powder).
Ingredients: Qianghuo (Radix Notopterygii, 3 fen), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, 3 fen, remove rhizome head), Xiongqiong (Radix Chuanxiong, 3 fen), Gegen (Radix Puerariae, 3 fen, sliced), Qinjiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, 3 fen, remove seedling), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, 2 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely grind the above ingredients and sieve them to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 ban of fresh ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Decoct until 0.6 zhong remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
