Infantile *gan* qi (accumulation disorder) arises from irregular diet and excessive intake of raw or cold foods, which clash with the internal Qi of the Zang-Fu organs, leading to stagnation and accumulation. The clinical presentation involves cord-like hard masses in the upper and lower regions around the umbilicus and hypochondrium; these masses may be as large as an arm or as small as a finger. Upon onset, they cause acute pain, hence the name "gan qi."
To treat infantile *gan* qi with acute pain, use Jing San Leng San:
Jing San Leng (Rhizoma Sparganii, 1 fen, lightly roasted and crushed), Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 1 fen, vinegar-processed until yellow, remove skirt), Zhi Qiao (Fructus Aurantii, 1 fen, bran-fried until slightly yellow, remove pith), Da Fu Zi (Semen Arecae, 0.5 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Qing Ju Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride, 0.5 liang, albedo removed).
