When the seasonal pathogen is in the exterior, sweating has been administered but the condition remains unresolved; or after vomiting and purging, the heat-toxin qi has not dissipated, resulting in restlessness and delirious speech. This constitutes a syndrome of exterior deficiency and interior excess. The hot qi is dry and rampant in the exterior, causing the body to manifest macules resembling brocade patterns. In cases of macule eruption, exterior-releasing medicines must not be used, lest they cause painful sores to open and exude fluids, thereby worsening the macular erosion, due to the existing exterior deficiency.
For treating seasonal qi conditions where both exterior and interior are unresolved, with heat-toxin lodged in the zang-fu organs leading to macule sores, Shengma San (Cimicifugae Powder) is indicated.
Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Xi Jiao Xie (Hornis Rhinocerotis Cutis), Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae), Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, radix removed), Zi Qin (Radix Scutellariae), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, radix removed), Xing Ren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, double kernels discarded, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into small pieces) (each 1 liang).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one zhong of water until reduced to 0.5 zhong, strain off the dregs. Take warm at any time.
Another prescription.
Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae, 1 liang), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 1 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 1 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into small pieces).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one da of water until reduced to 0.5 zhong, strain off the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For treating seasonal qi with stagnant toxin that does not recede, whole-body macule eruption, irritability and fever, and difficulty in urination and defecation, Lingyangjiao San (Saiga Tatarica Powder) is indicated.
Ling Yang Jiao Xie (Cornu Saigae Tataricae), Zhi Zi Ren (Semen Gardeniae), Mai Men Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonici, heart removed), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati, cut into small pieces and slightly fried), Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, cut into small pieces), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into small pieces), Chi Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) (each 1 liang).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one da of water until reduced to 0.5 zhong, strain off the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For treating winter-warmth disease that was not cured promptly, which, upon encountering summer heat, causes the winter-warmth toxin to emerge, manifesting as macular erosion and urticaria on the skin resembling brocade patterns, accompanied by wheezing and cough, chest oppression, and vomiting, Gegen Tang (Pueraria Decoction) is indicated.
Ge Gen (Radix Puerariae Lobatae, 1 liang, cut into small pieces), Chen Ju Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 liang, soaked in water, white pith removed, dried), Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, 2 liang, roots and joints removed), Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae Asphodeloides, 1 liang), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, 1 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 1 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into small pieces), Xing Ren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, 1 liang, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, double kernels discarded, bran-fried until slightly yellow).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one da of water, add half a fen of Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), until reduced to 0.5 zhong, strain off the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For treating seasonal qi with red macule sores erupted, characterized by foul heat in the chest and severe sores, this formula is indicated.
Ji Zi (Ovi Gallus Domestici Albumen, 2 eggs, shell removed), Yan Cu (Acetum Concentratum, 2 he), Zhu Dan Zhi (Bile Suilla, 3 he).
Mix the above ingredients, boil for more than ten boils, let cool to warm temperature. Take warm in three divided doses at any time.
For treating seasonal qi with heat-toxin in the zang-fu organs, about to erupt red macules, this formula is indicated.
Di Huang Zhi (Succus Radix Rehmanniae Recens, 5 he).
Place the above ingredient in a pot, mix with half a jin of fully refined Zhu Zhi (Adip Suillus), boil for more than ten boils, filter off the dregs, add She Xiang (Moschus) and stir until uniform. Take 2 he per dose, consume entirely. The toxin should exit from the muscles as sweat, and the patient will recover.
Another prescription.
Take one fresh Xia Ma (Rana Temporaria Chensinensis), remove intestines and stomach, pound and grind finely. Add one da of water, squeeze to extract juice, take in one dose. Alternatively, collect those gathered at noon on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, burn to ash, grind finely, and take mixed with cold water for better efficacy.
