Formulas for Treating Drowning Death.
In cases of drowning, immediately untie and remove the deceased's clothing. Apply moxibustion to the umbilicus (Shenque, CV8), and the patient will recover.
Another formula:
Spread ash from the stove on the ground to a thickness of five cun. Place a steamer basket on its side upon the ash. Have the drowning person lie prone on the steamer, with the head slightly hanging down. Insert two qian of salt powder into the mouth.
Another formula:
Dig a pit in the ground. Pour several hu of hot ash into the pit. Place the drowning person inside and cover them with ash. Replace the ash when it becomes wet. Ensure the ash is not too hot; replace it promptly once it cools. The patient may revive within half a day.
Another formula:
Take a large steamer basket and invert it. Support the drowning person in a prone position on top of it, with the mouth near the opening of the steamer. Burn fourteen bundles of reed fire inside the steamer, directing the heat towards the area below the heart. Allow the smoke to rise and enter the nostrils and mouth of the drowning person in small amounts. The patient will revive once all water is expelled. Add more fire as needed to keep the body warm. If no steamer is available, dig a pit in the shape of a steamer by the shore.
Another formula:
Bury the drowning person in warm ash, submerging both the head and feet completely, leaving only the seven orifices (two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, and one mouth) exposed. The patient will revive once water is expelled.
Another formula:
Hang the drowning person upside down. Irrigate the nostrils with good-quality wine. Also irrigate the lower orifice (anus/vagina).
Another formula:
Wrap Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus, 皂荚) in silk gauze and insert it into the lower orifice. After a short while, water will be expelled.
Another formula:
Wrap Duanshi (Hematitum calcinatum, 锻石) in silk gauze and insert it into the lower orifice. The patient will revive once water is fully expelled.
Another formula:
Hang the drowning person upside down. Remove their clothing and clean dirt from the umbilicus. Blow forcefully into both ears until the patient revives.
Another formula:
Heat sand and cover the upper and lower body of the drowning person, exposing only the nose, mouth, and ears. Replace the sand when it becomes damp.
Another formula:
Flex the legs of the drowning person and place them on the shoulders of another person. Position the back of the drowning person against the back of the rescuer. Carry the drowning person in an inverted posture while walking. The patient will revive once water is vomited out.
Formula for Treating Winter Drowning with Freezing, Stiff Limbs, Locked Jaws, but Remaining Vitality:
Heat ash until warm and place it in a cloth bag. Apply the bag to the cardiac region (heart area). Replace it when it cools. Once warmth circulates through the heart region, the jaw will open. Provide warm, thin rice gruel and administer it gradually. The patient will revive. Do not use fire to warm the body if the gruel is not warm; otherwise, cold qi and fire qi will conflict, leading to death.
