Lymphadenitis tuberclosis (scrofula) arises from strenuous activity in water, prolonged sitting on damp ground, or sweat entering the head and neck area after a fresh bath. Initially, lesions appear on the neck, constantly discharging pus and fluid, causing chills and fever; its root lies in the Kidney.
For lymphadenitis tuberculosus arising on the upper neck with nodular swelling and suppuration, it is suitable to take Banmao San (Spider Beetle Powder).
Banmao (Ten pieces of Mylabris phalerata, heads, feet, and wings removed, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow), Zhenzhu (Half tael of Pearl, finely ground), Pi (Half tael of unspecified bark/skin, roasted until yellow), Xionghuang (One fen of Realgar, finely ground).
The above medicines are pounded into a fine powder through a silk sieve. Each day on an empty stomach, take half qian mixed with warm wine, and take another dose at noon.
For lymphadenitis tuberculosus occurring in the neck and axilla, presenting with multiple heads opening into fistulas and constant discharge of pus, use Lufengfang Wan (Honeycomb Pill).
Lufengfang (One liang of Honeycomb), Xuduan (One liang of Dipsacus asperoides Root), Shizhongru (One liang of Stalactite, wrapped in mud and fired for half a day), Xijiaoxie (Half tael of Rhinoceros Horn chips - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Kongqing (Half tael of Azurite, fired and finely ground), Xionghuang (One fen of Realgar, finely ground), Jiegeng (Half tael of Platycodon Root, radicle removed), Litou (One head of Cat, burned to ash), Shexiang (One fen of Moschus, finely ground), Chuan Huanglian (One liang of Rhubarb, chopped).
The above medicines are pounded into powder through a sieve, mixed evenly with the previously ground ingredients, kneaded with refined honey, and pounded two or three hundred times. Form pills the size of mung beans. Take ten pills before meals with gruel broth.
For lymphadenitis tuberculosus, use Xiyyi Wan (Lizard Pill).
Xiyyi (One lizard, roasted cooked), Yuanjing (Fifty pieces of Meloe cicada, heads, feet, and wings removed, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow), Shexiang (One fen of Moschus, finely ground), Xijiaoxie (Three fen of Rhinoceros Horn chips - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Banmao (Thirty pieces of Mylabris phalerata, heads, feet, and wings removed, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow), Dichan (Thirty pieces of Mylabris cichorii, heads, feet, and wings removed, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow).
The above medicines are pounded into powder through a sieve, mixed with millet rice to form pills the size of mung beans. Take one pill daily on an empty stomach with warm wine. Efficacy will be seen after 100 days.
For lymphadenitis tuberculosus that has swollen and ruptured into ulcers, use this formula.
Shexiang (One fen of Moschus, finely ground), Hufen (One liang of Lead Carbonate), Huangdan (One liang of Red Lead, lightly fried).
