暴赤眼，是由于肝脏受风热侵袭，心气壅滞充实所致。心气实则生心热，心热则血液上注于肝。肝脏接受过多的血液而不停止，热邪与血液相互搏结。
治疗暴赤眼肿胀、涩痛、疼痛，宜服用犀角散方。

以上药物，捣碎过筛制成散剂。每次服用三钱，用水一中盏半，加入竹叶七片，共同煎至六分，去渣。每次在饭后温服。
治疗眼暴赤，石蜜煎点眼方。
石蜜（三两半） 朱砂（半两，细研） 石盐（半两，细研） 川芒硝（半两，碎） 盐绿（一分，研） 蕤仁（半两，研，水飞）
以上药物，全部研磨成粉状。用蜂蜜调制成煎膏。盛放在瓷器中。每次点眼如绿豆大小，放入眼睛两大眦中。应当避风日。
治疗眼暴赤，宜点杏仁煎方。
杏仁（半两，汤浸去皮，研如膏） 黄连（半两，去须，捣罗为末） 腻粉（一钱） 白蜜（半合） 古字钱（一枚）
以上药物，混合在一起。在铜器中，用慢火煎至沸腾。药液减少至一半。用绵布过滤使其洁净。再放入容器中，渐渐用火逼干。
治疗眼暴赤肿痛方。
白蜜（四两） 黄连（半两，去须，捣罗为末） 蕤仁（半两，汤浸去赤皮，细研） 龙脑（半钱，细研）
以上药物，全部研磨均匀。与蜂蜜混合。放入铜器中，用慢火熬制成稀饧状。用新绵过滤。待药稍冷后，加入龙脑。
又一方。
粗黄连（长度比患病小儿手中指短三节，若以父母手中指一节相比则取相应长度） 青州枣（三枚）
以上药物，用河水一中盏。令患者自己含水，咀嚼黄连，将汁液吐入铫子内。若有苦汁即咽下，不得吐出。
治疗眼毒风暴赤，羞明不愈方。

以上药物，放入竹筒内盛放。坐在汤锅内，煮一天为度。之后取出。用绵布过滤。用瓷器盛放。用铜箸点眼。

以上药物一处，在银铫子内，用水一大盏，慢火煎至半盏。新绵过滤去渣。在净器中折叠一两度。以……

以上药物，同用绵裹，系定。用井华水二合，浸泡药物一两宿。去渣。夜间临卧时，点眼，候口中苦为度。

黄连（一分，去须，捣末） 蕤仁（半两，汤浸去赤皮，细研） 青古钱（七文）
以上药物，用甜淡浆水一大盏，在银器中，用文火熬制成稀饧状。用新绵过滤。放入净瓷瓶中密封。有患者，用铜箸点之。
治疗眼暴赤，热肿痛涩方。
秦皮 蕤仁（汤浸去赤皮，研） 甘草（各一两） 细辛（半两） 栀子仁（半两） 竹叶（五十片）
以上药物，锉碎。用水四大盏，煮取二盏。去渣。每次温用三合清洗。
又一方。
鲤鱼胆（十枚，取汁） 腻粉（一钱）
以上药物，混合均匀。瓷合中盛放。每次取少许点之。
又一方。
上用马牙硝。研为末。安于照上。以铜沙锣盛。照稍侧照。夜露之。令露滴消下。入沙锣中。
Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye) is caused by Liver Wind-Heat invading the Liver, and Heart Qi being stagnant and excessive. When Heart Qi is excessive, it generates Heart Heat; when there is Heart Heat, blood rushes to the Liver. The Liver receives an excess of blood without cessation, and Heat pathogens interact with Blood.
To treat Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye) with swelling, astringency, pain, and discomfort, it is appropriate to take Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder).
Xijiao Xie (Powdered Rhinoceros Horn, 3 fen) Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed, 1 liang) Mutong (Akebia Caulis, 1 liang, sliced) Zixin (Scutellaria Root, 3 fen) Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 1 liang, sliced, lightly stir-fried) Qumai (Buckwheat)
The above herbs are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 14 leaves of Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf), decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm after meals.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), use Xi Gan Chaihu San (Liver-Washing Bupleurum Powder).
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, 2.5 liang, remove seedlings) Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang) Juemingzi (Cassiae Semen, 2 liang) Lingyangjiao Xie (Powdered Antelope Horn, 1 liang) Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 1 liang)
The above herbs are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm after meals.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), use Ruiren San (Prunus Persica Kernel Powder).
Ruiren (Prunus Persica Kernel, 2 liang, remove skin) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 2 liang) Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed, 1 liang) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang, remove stamens) Qinpi (Phellodendron Bark, 2 liang, sliced) Xijiao Xie (Powdered Rhinoceros Horn, 1 liang)
The above herbs are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1.5 zhong of water and 7 leaves of Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf), decoct together until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm after meals.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), use Shimian Jian for Eye Instillation (Stone Honey Decoction for Eye Drops).
Shimian (Rock Sugar/Honey, 3.5 liang) Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 liang, finely ground) Shiyan (Rock Salt, 0.5 liang, finely ground) Chuan Mangxiao (Mirabilite, 0.5 liang, crushed) Yanyu (Malachite, 1 fen, ground) Ruiren (Prunus Persica Kernel, 0.5 liang, ground, water-flotation processed)
All the above herbs are ground into powder. Mix with honey to form a paste. Store in a porcelain vessel. Instill an amount the size of a mung bean into both eyes. Avoid wind and sunlight.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), use Xingren Jian for Eye Instillation (Almond Paste for Eye Drops).
Xingren (Apricot Seed, 0.5 liang, soaked in hot water, skin removed, ground into paste) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 0.5 liang, remove stamens, pounded and sifted into powder) Nifen (Calomel, 1 qian) Baimi (White Honey, 0.5 he) Gu Zi Qian (Ancient Coin with Character, 1 piece)
Mix the above ingredients. In a copper vessel, boil over low heat until boiling. Reduce the liquid by half. Filter through cotton cloth until clear. Return to the vessel and slowly evaporate using gentle heat.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye) with swelling, pain, and tenderness.
Baimi (White Honey, 4 liang) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 0.5 liang, remove stamens, pounded and sifted into powder) Ruiren (Prunus Persica Kernel, 0.5 liang, soaked in hot water, red skin removed, finely ground) Longnao (Borneol, 0.5 qian, finely ground)
Grind all ingredients evenly. Mix with honey. Place in a copper vessel and simmer over low heat until resembling thin syrup. Filter through new cotton cloth. When slightly cool, add Longnao (Borneol).
Another prescription.
Cu Huanglian (Coarse Coptis Rhizome, length three joints shorter than the affected child's middle finger; if comparing to parent's finger, adjust accordingly) Qingzhou Zao (Qingzhou Date, 3 pieces)
Use 1 zhong of river water. Have the patient hold water in their mouth, chew the Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), and spit the juice into a yin (small pot). If bitter juice is produced, swallow it; do not spit it out.
To treat eye toxicity from wind-storm causing Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), photophobia, and non-healing.
E Li (Goose Pear, 3 pieces, extract juice) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang, finely sifted) Pengsha (Borax, 0.5 fen, ground into powder) Mi (Honey, 2 liang)
Place the above ingredients in a bamboo tube. Sit the tube in a pot of boiling water and cook for one day. Remove afterwards. Filter through cotton cloth. Store in a porcelain vessel. Use a copper chopstick to instill into the eyes.
To treat Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye), astringency, and pain with divine efficacy.
Li Yu Dan (Carps Gallbladder, 5 pieces) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 3 fen, remove stamens, crushed)
Mix evenly. Store in a porcelain box. Steam in a rice steamer for the duration of cooking one meal. Filter through new cotton cloth to remove dregs. Instill into eyes.
To treat Feng Du Baochi Yan (Wind-Toxicity Sudden Red Eye) with swelling, astringency, and pain.
Longnao (Borneol, 0.5 qian) Qinpi (Phellodendron Bark, sliced) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, remove stamens) Gancao (Licorice Root, freshly sliced) Mayaxiao (Mirabilite, refined, finely ground, 0.5 liang each)
Crush and sift. Soak in 1 zhong of water overnight. Decoct in a silver yin (pot) to 5 fen. Filter through new cotton cloth. Add Longnao (Borneol) and mix well.
Another prescription.
Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang, remove coarse bark, break into pieces, wash with water) Sang Tiao (Mulberry Twig, 3 handfuls, washed, finely ground)
Place all ingredients in a silver yin (pot). Add 1 zhong of water and simmer over low heat until reduced to 0.5 zhong. Filter through new cotton cloth to remove dregs. Fold/strain in a clean vessel once or twice.
Another prescription.
Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 2 segments, each 3 cun long, remove stamens) Xingren (Apricot Seed, 3 pieces, soaked in hot water, skin and tip removed, ground) Nifen (Calomel, 0.5 qian) Qingyan (Green Salt, 0.5 qian)
Wrap the above herbs together in cotton cloth and tie securely. Soak in 2 he of Jinghua Water (well water drawn at dawn) for one night. Remove dregs. At bedtime, instill into eyes until a bitter taste is felt in the mouth.
Another prescription.
Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 fen, remove stamens, pounded into powder) Ruiren (Prunus Persica Kernel, 0.5 liang, soaked in hot water, red skin removed, finely ground) Qing Gu Qian (Ancient Green Coin, 7 coins)
Add 1 zhong of sweet and light Jiangshui (fermented grain water). Simmer in a silver vessel over gentle heat until resembling thin syrup. Filter through new cotton cloth. Store in a clean porcelain bottle with tight seal. For patients, use a copper chopstick to instill.
To treat eye Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye) with heat, swelling, pain, and astringency.
Qinpi (Phellodendron Bark) Ruiren (Prunus Persica Kernel, soaked in hot water, red skin removed, ground) Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang each) Xixin (Asarum Root, 0.5 liang) Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed, 0.5 liang) Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf, 50 pieces)
Slice the herbs. Add 4 zhong of water, decoct to obtain 2 zhong. Strain and remove dregs. Warm 3 he and use to wash the eyes.
Another prescription.
Li Yu Dan (Carps Gallbladder, 10 pieces, extract juice) Nifen (Calomel, 1 qian)
Mix evenly. Store in a porcelain box. Take a small amount each time to instill.
To treat Baochi Yan (Sudden Red Eye) with pain and gritty sensation.
Take Jicai Gen (Shepherd's Purse Root). Crush and squeeze to extract juice. Instill into the eyes.
Another prescription.
Use Mayaxiao (Mirabilite). Grind into powder. Place on a mirror. Hold in a copper basin. Angle the mirror slightly. Expose to night dew. Allow dew drops to dissolve the powder and fall into the basin.
